@futurebird Mostly, never argue their conclusions. Once you are into an idea enough that it becomes a part of your identity, the actual facts will always be twisted to fit the idea. No matter how absurd it looks to an outsider.Instead try and unwind the motivation. "Why is it important for you to believe that there are fewer people?". For most people, it really doesn't matter if the world is flat; but it matters a great deal if you can be easily fooled by yourself.

@davidrevoy I'd love to pick your brains about this particular news. From what I can read it looks so vague that it's no so much introducing something as inducing anxiety.I have no reaction because it doesn't appear to have anything in it. Perhaps out of sheer cowardice. It's hard to gauge anything other the a will to "do something" or be seen to be doing something at least.Interested?

@davidrevoy Heh, I notice one of the signals isn't "fuck off", but I guess that's just something we'll have to win in the courts.Looks like they've come at this from the idea of the maximally restrictive copyright regime where property rights had made sharing problematic to one where the law is allowing unconsenting abuse of works. Maybe hedging that copyright will be tightened.Though considering the gullibility of politicians with AI, I just don't see that yet.

@davidrevoy @serge @creativecommons Thanks for the tag in.There's a lot of questions to ask, although I admit to being interested in different ones centred on consent, the social implication of being abused without recourse, and of course then the active discussion on "signalling" can happen on top of those resolutions.So I guess we need a bunch of perspectives because we are not on the same page (might not even be the same book!)

What people need an invitation to join, and the materials templates to make it easy to join, would be local and club based servers which are advertised directly.@davidrevoy Do you think we could pair up some of your cute drawings with an svg template to just pop in the details for any server which someone could print and hand out locally?

Installed #Fedora 42 for my nephew. Dual boot. Very happy with it after getting audio fixed.But here's an interesting anti-oops. The camera app loads with this gnarly data corruption, it records fine and clean and looks fine in big blue button but live feed shows bits of the video feed interleaved with corruption.But here's the thing, he's into video editing and this is him recording his teeth opening and closing in between all the data. @futurebird Ugh tell me about it. As a dyslexic trying to remember how to spell mr... mymer... and damn it I'll just search for ants in the full search, and copy the name. Except I can't copy the user from the profile page or the search page. So write it down on a bit of paper and carefully type it into a post.It would be helpful if I could say "@ that ant lady" and it just listed all the ant ladies sorted by interaction strength. Instead of trying to match the specific name/username.

I have a frustration. We publish #inkscape on the Microsoft Store, mostly for people who's workplaces or surface tablets forbid them from installing directly.But it's a headache. We have no employees, and the linux engineer who does the packaging is a volunteer. Week before last Inkscape's botched upgrade from 1.3.2 to 1.4.2 in the store (very late) caused about 4.5k people (real humans) to not be able to use Inkscape for an entire week before the install error was fixed.This is ... 1/2

2/2 ... not good.This is the sort of problem that a paid version of Inkscape would be fixing, personally I don't think it responsible to offer a gratis version of Inkscape on any store. It creates a weird relationship where users *depend* on free labour and are at the same time alienated from being able to fix it.Why do we do this to ourselves? Ask people to depend on us, but provide no functioning economics to make it actually function?Gratis Software: The gift that keeps on taking.😮💨
