@atomicpoet Very curious to see how this app stands up to the ultimate platform-killer, the one that so far has left no survivors in its wake: dumb people adopting it en masse. (I feel like it has a real chance!)

@atomicpoet yes, and most comments sections (R.I.P The Atlantic's comments section), most bulletin boards, and Twitter (though that's currently ongoing). When a platform is adopted by a wide swath of the general public, building the right culture to help it thrive seems to become an impossible task. Strict moderation can work, but I suspect the decentralized instances/servers of Mastodon may likewise help shield it from that effect, no matter how many of us newbies join up in the months to come.

@Corfiot @atomicpoet I don't have a strong opinion on this because I haven't thought much about it before. I was originally thinking more of the culture on the network itself, rather than its resultant impact on the real world. I agree that a network doesn't need to affect meatspace to be useful. But I also think that networks which reach critical popular mass become inextricable from their IRL cultural impact - meaning a behemoth like Facebook is definitely dying as its popularity fades.

@coolboymew I want to boost this, but I'd feel remiss if I didn't ask you to please add a caption of it for the visually impaired first... pretty please?

I have a special fondness for "crap rares." I like tinkering with cards most people would (usually correctly) consider unplayable in any competitive format. So of course I've been thinking about this large boi since it was teased.Yargle and Multani is a vanilla gold legend - only the third such new creature to be printed since Legends. (The others are Yargle, Glutton of Urborg itself, and Isamaru, Hound of Konda.) Let's discuss it! 🧵#MagicTheGathering #MarchOfTheMachine

A couple of things struck me right away about this card: One, and I think what everyone noticed about it first off, that attack line is HUGE. Normally, to even approach a printed-on-card power like that requires all sorts of conditions to be met, but the second thing that struck me about Y&M (as I'll call it hereafter) is that it has a mana value of just 6 - and only in 2 colors! Though green isn't popular in Standard right now, the single green mana is quite doable. (cont'd)

Even though "no abilities" is about the least exciting thing to read on a new creature card (outside of a Jasmine Boreal of the Seven EDH deck, which Y&M doesn't fit into anyway), the stat line returns on mana investment for this card are unbelievable. In terms of raw numerical efficiency, 24 points of total stats for 6 mana is a 4-to1 return.Of course, the big issue here is figuring out what to do with a big creature... that's vulnerable to almost everything. Grunge was fine and all, but imagine if the '90s had kept going in the Body Count/Pretty Hate Machine-era Nine Inch Nails //Johnny Mnemonic/Tank Girl direction instead!...What I'm basically trying to say is that the '90s didn't respect Ice-T enough.#90sMusic #90sMovies #IceT

Update: I rewatched #JohnnyMnemonic a couple of nights ago and yep, it's still a ride and Ice-T's character still owns.

Yesterday was a good day to cancel your Spotify subscription. Today is a good day to cancel it as well. And guess what? Tomorrow, too, will be a good day to cancel your subscription to Spotify. (h/t @killyourfm )https://www.billboard.com/pro/spotify-changing-how-pays-artists-stream-thresholds/

@killyourfm Just in case it might help, when I jumped ship a few years ago (for Tidal, which at least pays artists a little bit better), I used this free service to copy all my playlists over: https://www.tunemymusic.com/Pros:- does what it says on the box- costs nothing- doesn't take an obnoxious amount of timeCons:- will replace tracks it can't find on your new service with somewhat random ones- will delete your playlist descriptions and replace them with "created with Tune My Music" text

@futurebird Squirt! I also really like 7-Up. (But I try to only have them a couple of times a year, as a treat.)
