@CarlCravens It's worse when the boss of the roofers came yesterday, put in five minutes of "how the fuck did they leave such a big mess" and then left knowing that I'm going to get charged tomorrow for cleanup. And then stopped answering emails and phone calls.

@fribbledom That same feature lets you reorder commits and merge them together. It's awesome.

@CarlCravens I really need to start wearing shoes (or moccasins) around the house. This pandemic has made a few things worse down there plus I'm apparently fond of not missing the china cabinet by walking too close to the wall and missing.

@CarlCravens That is one reason I keep harping about wanting a laptop with the full PC keyboard layout. I don't like the pain that comes from trying to adjust to the laptop arrangement (it hurts to squeeze myself down) but even the 17" don't use a full layout.

The kids really want to play Goat Simulator 3, which came out today but only for the Epic Megastore, which is one of the few game sites I don't want an account for. So I had to give them the news that they can't play for a year because daddy doesn't like Epic.

@reto Goat Simulator is an open world sandbox game by Coffee Stain Studios. It was their first big success before they created Satisfactory, their build and chill game. A local and remote co-op friendly game, you play goats that butt people, jump off skyscrapers, summon elder gods, and get jet packs to wander the world after countless hidden surprises. The sequel is GS3 (no 2) and it ups the graphics, let's you play giraffes and lamas, and has even more easter eggs and hidden areas.

@reto Basically, a screw around and have fun game with no pressure to "beat" anything, which is a Coffee Stain thing.

@CarlCravens @reto Stupid, mindless fun and destruction. Pretty much the goal of most sandbox games.

@hyde Yeah, Sentenced to Prism was one of my comfort books in high school during a rough period. I read it so often that I had it completely memorized and had to put it down somewhere around 1993 or so. I didn't pick it up again until ~2012 or so and realized I still had it memorized. So You Want... series was my Harry Potter and used to be an annual read for me well into my early 20s.

@benjaminhollon I've done CLIs in a lot of languages, but usually it's C#, TypeScript, or Rust for me. Mostly, it comes down to which ecosystem floats your boat and what is your goal?Ten thousand dependencies with 1.23 dependency vulnerabilities/hour? TypeScript.Questionable ethics? C#.Terabyte-scale source directories with single file outputs? Rust

@benjaminhollon Deno does have native TypeScript support so you can get type safety if you go that approach.

@benjaminhollon It started as basically a bolted on language to JavaScript and was rough. But, I feel with a lot of the more modern features, it has a lot of benefits over JavaScript... if you are willing to take the hit for needing a stricter language when the ecosystem only barely supports it.For me, I need that static analysis that TS gives. JS (and Python and Ruby and Perl) are too "squishy" for me because you don't have the safety of having the static analysis catch typos, wrong variables, or give semantic documentation.

Sometimes, I feel that I'm too picky about coding, then:Developer A makes a six line fix, asks for PR.Developer B approves in eight seconds.Developer C approves less than a minute later.I answer ten minute later with a five bullet point items of how the code violated our standards for maintainability, formatting, and usage (probably shouldn't put an error condition as a verbose message that is filtered out by default). Plus it had a null reference bug and missed one of the work item requirements.I'm still too picky but there "might" be a reason why.

I wonder if I should use the count of of alternative clients as a measure of openness of a social network?

@twizzay Twitter, Facebook, Fedi, Discord, Zulip (Rust has a channel as /r/rust said it was an alternative but F-Droid only has one).Twitter used to have a lot but those have gone down with end vitrification (I did some Pidgin/libpurple work for Twitter).Reddit is losing clients also.

@simon gkg.net served me for many years. Then I moved to DreamHost because they supported .us domains.
