Can any of you fine folks recommend homeschooling materials (or just good history books) for middle school students (grades 6-8) that discuss US history in a positive way?At my daughter's school, the "English" classes include lots of readings about historical topics, but it seems every single topic focuses on America's faults and mistakes. Somehow they never get around to covering any positive or exemplary parts of US history.I will have to teach her myself. All suggestions welcome!Thanks.

@timr @carolinacally Have any prominent Republicans come out against AB5?It's a perfect campaign issue. But I'm worried that this is Yet Another case where Republicans are going to pull punches.Republicans in CA, and on the national level, need to state clearly that they oppose AB5, and that if they get into office they will work to repeal it. They have to campaign on the issue, and follow through.

@REX If Senior Chinese leaders were infected, would they publicize it?If this virus is somehow man-made, my guess is it's more likely to be an accidental release from a lab.Over the long run, the primary casualty of this virus will be global trade and global travel. That is bad for China and great for the US. Anyone with a bio-weapon in their hands could foresee this. Anyone who wanted to preserve and extend the current trade arrangements wouldn't use this kind of weapon. JMHO.

@watch4thedrop In the past I have gotten medical advice from my family physician that I knew to be factually false. At that time, it didn't change my general opinion of doctors in general, or that doctor in particular. I respected them for their expertise and their altruistic vocation.After 2020 my mind has changed completely. My former opinions were naive.People should trust doctors the way they trust auto mechanics. Not all of them will scam you, but many of them will. Buyer beware.
