@smallsees pour one out for them. Fond memories of their *old* office in York St behind Pultney Hungry Jacks, the old server room consisting of a few benches with some Slackware and Win95 towers sitting on top, and a rack of modems in the corner. Streaming music service was provided courtesy of a janky FM radio plugged into the line-in on a soundcard on a Win box running RealPlayer. The Internet was a source of endless excitement and possibilities back then!

@smallsees The most fun part of that server was when a tech from another customer - who had their own server in there - needed to quickly grab a keyboard, they pulled it out of that (rather large radio network's) RP server. It was a PS2 keyboard. You can imagine the hilarity that ensued. Said tech was banned from the room henceforth.

Can anybody point me to the documentation explaining how @Tusky works with @unifiedpush via #ntfy ? I'm having difficulty groking the zero-configuration magic, and how I could get it to work with a self-hosted @ntfy server

@karmanyaahm @Tusky @unifiedpush @ntfy thanks, that covers the "what", I'm curious about the "how" though:- How did Tusky magically become aware of ntfy when I installed it? Does it periodically poll a certain local port on the phone, or attempt an API call, and the first time it succeeded it registered a random topic?- Where are the messages coming from - i.e. how does my Mastodon host know to PUT to my local server, so that it can then publish to the topic that Tusky has subscribed to?

I'm definitely missing something about the @Tusky @unifiedpush ntfy.sh thing. I open Tusky this morning, a boat load of notifications from 18 hours ago suddenly start pouring out. Pretty sure they should have come through sooner Ntfy is excluded from battery optimisation, Tusky isn't.

@maccath @protonprivacy From a privacy point of view, they've had some press in recent years that's dented their image a littlehttps://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/09/privacy-focused-protonmail-provided-a-users-ip-address-to-authorities/https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/proton-mail-fails-activists-again-is-it-time-to-ditch-the-app-for-good/ar-BB1mnE6M

Can any American friends out there explain the attached statement to me and the concept of "registered Democrat/Republican" - is it saying that everybody who enrols to vote has to publicly/anonymously register which party they traditionally align with, even outside of the election cycle?Or is that just a thing that lots of people do voluntarily i.e. from below 10% of the entire voting population of NY have publicly stated that they are Republican - does that mean that 90% have stated that they are Democrat? Coming at this from the perspective of an Australian. Most of us are not members of any party - we just turn up on polling day and vote for whomever we like.
