Writing this on the Mastonaut Mac OS app. Still not getting used to the word “toot”. But I saw that oslo.town has about 600 users so far, that’s not too bad.

Things I expect from oslo.town:1) Suggestions for what to do in Oslo (what’s happening now/this weekend/soon)2) Local people who care about Oslo, from their dufferent perspectives.3) A view of Oslo in the world; glocal perspectives.

@thor The best would be if you had your own social network just for you and your best pals from way back!

@matt @yesmissmurphy How can we expand those 12 hours to 120 or 720? Whst drives one person’s interest isn’t the same as another’s drivers… What?! We are different? No wai!

@matt Makes sense, I agree. No reason to make things too complicated. Have a continued great weekend!

@joannastern What are the benefits of having your own server? That is one of my questions. Not that I think I will go down that path. But I am curious about the drivers for that kind of decision.

@matt Yup, pinned it on website now, thanks for the tip. But it is not showing on my profile yet. No worries, clogs in the machine.

@mcpaccard had a good point yesterday that I want to expand on. The internet used to be quite cumbersome. In many says, a struggle. Slow, flashing gifs, popup mayhem. Remember ISDN? It is much more streamlined now. Better UX. But also, we have become more used to ease of tools. In many ways, we are spoiled. Also, in some ways this lack of tech friction gives us focus on other things. Like amount of likes, vs seeing a like as an Interaction. Wanting to broadcast to many, vs bilateral chat. 1/

@Sheril I joined Twitter in 2007, and it was amazing back then. I loved it there. Then I did lose interesr in 2010-2011. It felt a bit more stale. I think Mastodon will also have it’s own issues down the line, but I also think we should enjoy this freshness vibe as long as it is there. Meet new people, be curious, and try for as long as we can to see the others as Individuaks, not part of the numbers. For me, it is like youtube: «Creating videos for 10 friends» vs «I want 100K subscribers.»✨

@matt What are the cost drivers? I am pretty sure some of us users will chip in, patreon or so. As long as transparency is there, we will get this flying. If just 2% of users chip in, that is still 20+

@matt I consider Bergen my home city. At least I am a pretty big Bergen patriot. But I have lived in Oslo since 2009 now. And I like it in Oslo - now. This is where my boy grows up. He knows no other home town, Oslo it is for him. So, Oslo town. And I can still visit Bergen, or speak my sort-of-Bergenese dialect.
