@wolf480pl @sir Some lists I’ve seen swap depression and bargaining. The list was never intended to be chronological. But that’s not the point. @sir must grieve.

Modern web browsers seem like they were designed by someone who saw a document retrieval system and said, “How can I make this more like TV?”

@pamela I know @tejrnz has a nifty one for scp that refuses to execute if there’s no colon in the command (i.e., if it would just do a local copy)

More lines of code means more bugs. Therefore, the easiest way to write less bugs is to write less code. That’s not to say doing so would take less time. Indeed, large software projects often grow large because of a lack of time.

Software engineers are constantly subjected to the same conundrum Blaise Pascal faced when he wrote, “I would have written a shorter letter, but I didn’t have the time.”

@wolf480pl @rysiek “Google ... helped out ...”Saying someone “helped out” by not charging predatory prices sounds like Stockholm Syndrome to me.

@wolf480pl Some malware, once it has infected a machine, will install defenses to make sure it isn’t taken over by competing malware, so your definition of antivirus could really just be simplified to “malware.”

It’s rewarding to have friends come to me and ask how to up their Internet privacy game, but it’s exhausting to have to disabuse them of the notion that a VPN is the best option for them. It usually isn’t.

I’ve been using rc as my login shell for a month or two now. It’s simplicity makes it downright easy to script in as well. Just be careful to stick with POSIX shell for anything you want to be portable. https://www.scs.stanford.edu/nyu/04fa/sched/readings/rc.pdf
