       @emilymbender There is a demand for low-background steel, steel produced before the nuclear tests mid century, for use in Geiger counters. They produce it from scavenging ships sunk during world war one, as it's the only way they can be sure there is no radiation.The same is going to happen for internet data, only archives pre-2022 will be usable for sociology research and the like as the rest will be contaminated by AI nonsense. Absolute travesty.

       The vast majority of large orgs are going to be using Oracle for the next 30 years at least, so open source claiming all the startups doesn't matter too much in the lifetime of anyone working there today. Decisions are made by those at the top who don't have to deal with the consequences of their decisions day to day.Plenty of tech grows and even thrives with no one liking or willingly using it, VDIs coming straight to mind.

       @simon at my job, we started a slow, slow move away from oracle for some applications, but in the meantime migrated to Oracle EBS.I think they'll probably go the broadcom route, buying companies and taking their new clients hostage.

       @simon I've noticed the same on Reddit. Post in favour of unionization of Devs and you'll get a few upvotes during EU hours but when America wakes up the downvotes flood in.

       Bit of an odd #a11y question: is there any #screenreader that outputs everything it reads/says to a text file somewhere? Want to try some bits in #CSS and other browser features and would be good to have backup copies of what the screen readers said before and after the changes to my page.

       @jannem @danluu Yes! Bikes for enthusiasts are all narrow sleek racing things, but every deliveroo rider near me has these fat tyres that look like they could run over landmines and not feel it.Big change in how we look at bikes, definitely I'll be going for big tyres on my next one.
