Don't get me wrong here. The Black activists are 100% valid, not meaning to talk over that. A bit that really resonated with me was that white ppl get to go home after a protest, they get to go to work, have friends, and can shed any unpopular labels. But BIPOC, well we're BIPOC all the time regardless of our politicsAnd it is something that white #anarchists or activists or like whatever really need to think aboutYes this does ignore any other point of protest, but it's still, not invalid

It reminds me of advice from an infosec person or other, for traveling to #defcon. The advice was not to have stickers on your laptop b/c they might be like you know, too edge for the asshole TSA.And I thought that was hilarious, b/c I walk around brown 24/7. Can't take that off.Really helped cement, for me, that for white folks, this is all just a game. They can change their clothes, take off their stickers, change their ethics, and fit in again whenever. They can't really have 100% buy-in

Looking for #linux programs for subtitling/captioning videosI've tried aegis, gnome subtitles, and subtitle editor. None of them seem to presume you're doing a video with no subtitles. I also really need the workflow to be I just type out each line of caption, with me choosing when there will be a new line of captions, and then after i'm completely done, me watching the whole video again and sticking each line to the right spot chronologically#subtitles #captioning #accessibility

gonna try maknig a text file, and then loading that into i guess subtitle editor to see if it'll play nice with time stamping...this is very frustrating to my unmedicated overtired brain.

My kids' birthdays are coming up, but our household is still struggling and while we're making some money, it's only 1/3 of what we need.I feel lucky that I set up my kids to not at all be materialistic, and the only thing they expect is to be able to get whatever they want to eat on their bdays.But we can't actually afford even basic food, so if anyone can help at all, that would be amazingpaymenty things in next post

to expand, *needing* a job / do things for money is ableist and deadly. (as is obviously the point so communties get destroyed / not created that could otherwise destroy or at least disentangle us from being exploited)however the expectation that random people can work 40 hours a week is ableist because it cuts a huge portion of the population from being able to work and cuts a huge portion of the population from the communities they care about

a thing white ppl seem to, if i'm being generous, forget in their Learn2Mastodon threads:white supremacy is alive and well in the fediverse! it's cultivated even. some instance are more obviously worse than others, but that insidous sort is everywhere. if you are BIPOC, it's extra ok and good to change instances. But also, like many things, these are primarily white run spaces and our safety tends towards being conditional, especialy for Black folks here
