       @troed @aral @Gargron Oh my god, this is do depressing. I might just dump #socialmedia altogether.#Mastodon #fediverse

       I look at accounts on #Mastodon with a #bluecheck EMOJI - like the ones on my profile - without clarifying that it is an emoji and there is no verification system like that in the #fediverse with a side eye. In the back of my mind, I just think can you not just keep it on #Twitter?

       Welp, I think my #homophobic family tried to call on my real, private number only family has & blocked their number to try and minister to me. I have secret email addresses and phone numbers, so I can trace what group is calling or emailing and why.When I screened the call, they hung up. They do this every one of my birthdays and #Pride month.#gaymastodon #lgbtq #lgbtqia #gay #Christian #Christians #homophobia

       I remember rocking this song in high school when I wore corn rows. Now, as a person in their 30s with a receding hairline, I am still rocking it.I Am Not My Hair (Official Music Video) ft. I normally don't comment on #climatechange issues because I work with chaotic systems for a living. The weather is an example of a chaotic system. The thing with dynamical systems is that they are bifurcated, sensitive to initial conditions, and largely irreversible and deterministic. They're also logarithmic. Basically, if we did everything right today, we're probably too late because we would still be dealing with a exponential cascade over the years because of the Lyapunov exponent.

       A way I can explain it is that it's physically like trying to reverse death. The entropic and statistical mechanics in processes at work in death are at work in #climatechange. I don't know how to feel, but I'm fairly certain humanity has driven itself into inevitable extinction.

       Yes, it's hot and will continue to get hot because of an exponential cascade of dynamical factors. We waited too long.#climatechange

       @freemo I think people are under the impression that if we stop doing what we're doing it will fix it. We have to reverse things. How do we undo the deaths of organisms that sequester carbon, sequester the carbon in the atmosphere, and transform geographic regions such that these organisms have an ecosystem?

       @freemo How do we extract protons out of the ocean to make it less acidic?

       @freemo Humans have created large-scale largely irreversible changes. We're actually changing the tilt of the planet. It's not enough to just stop polluting.

       @freemo No, that's not how it works. Organisms don't evolve things because they need them. They evolve things relative to their genetic diversity, and humans have driven an appalling loss in biodiversity which will cause a genetic bottleneck such that animals can't adapt.

       @freemo I assumed animals, otherwise, your nature comment was nonsensical. There's no appropriate context in Physics. It sounds like woo to me

       @freemo These conversations frustrate me. Let's take oxygen. It comes from plants, right? Say we killed ALL the plants, would oxygen just come back on its own? No. Of course not. We've effectively done that with ecosystems that sequester carbon and prevent acidification.

       @freemo It has no context to me because natural forces related to balance correspond to the principles of least and maximum action or entropy. Life emerges as a consequence of a thermodynamic IMBALANCE that chemically allows for stored energy. It's the reverse. Thermodynamic inequalities allow for chemical energy to be stored.

       @freemo No, we killed it. We're currently killing sea lions due to a run away effect of an algae bloom. Are you missing that we are responsible for deforestation and the heavy metals already killed a lot of the ecosystem that sequestered carbon?

       @freemo You're frustrating me because you're arguments are predicated on a teleological argument, which in that aspect, exemplifies the religious beliefs that got us into this mess. Instead of using science, you're using spiritual tropes about nature that doesn't address the problems.

       @freemo See, this right here is the problem. People refuse to believe that it is this dire. By the way, I work in a field of biology, so I see the numbers everyday. We're in trouble. Big trouble.
