@amolith What are you going to do about the ads that are outside? You don't own the land.Now, most people think that it's wrong to just rip the ads off. I disagree, and that's the path I recommend.In the end, it's about human good vs profits, and this world chose profits.

KDE Plasma loads for 70 seconds on a laptop with 4 GB RAM and a 2.4 GHz processor. Xfce 4.12 takes 7 seconds.Measured from startx command up until menus become usable.Windows is probably worse, so no wonder normies get all the newest hardware.

@keith I don't have anything residual, this KDE installation is completely new. And I even disabled compositor etc.What you think is "quite low" won't be the same for someone with old hardware. So, my test seems to show that new DEs are unusable for someone with old hardware.

@Sprinklednights Some programs are written specifically for KDE, but if you can find replacements (I think the only ones without are like, Krita and Kolourpaint, maybe), then yeah, it's nothing.Actually, Slackware switching from KDE 3 to 4 made me seek another distro then (this was somewhere in 2008). That was before I knew how to, like, just install all the packages I want myself etc. But I knew enough to drop a trash DE when I saw it. And KDE 5 is even worse.

@PawelK @wrongthink @amolith Real life adblock will work...for a while. Until they make it subscription based, or compromise the lists to create "acceptable ads", or something even more evil that I can't think of right now. Eventually we will have to fix the problem at the root.

@Duine I felt a wave of second hand embarassment right there...I had to step away from the screen for a while.At least the guy in black didn't let the other one run away and exposed his bluffs publicly.Also, funny how the other guy had a mask on, and then took it off in the middle of his speech?
