@tante I guess it‘s because they can‘t scale their server capacity fast enough. That‘s what you get for working on Azure… So much for "AI has peaked"…

@Wolven @aral Seriously, let’s just abolish copyright laws. They are the source for the most blatant abusive lawsuits. Since the Queen Anne edict the whole field of intellectual property has just been an impediment to human progress, scientifically and culturally. Everything is a remix, AI too.

@tante The same thing happened 1985 when Steve Jobs was fired. There were even important developers who left the company and helped Jobs build up Next. In spite of revolutionary innovation and substance in the PC market of the mid-80ies.

@Wolven we are now at a technological point in time where more date means better AI. Just compare Adobe Firefly (with consent) to Midjourney (no consent). It‘s like comparing Siri to ChatGPT. You *can* do LLM with consent only. As long as you are happy with the output quality of Siri or Alexa. *and* you are ready to pay 150$ a month to use it.

@Wolven "playsforsure" vibes anyone? I‘m so glad Apple is following a much more sensible approach to AI and is not riding the hype train. Privacy first, no new feature without a real usecase that benefits most users.

@aral Oh jeez, why can‘t people learn from history? iPod? iPhone? iPad? AppleWatch? Every new product category had a sales slump after a few months. And smartasses immediately and smugly explained how these devices were too expensive, hadn‘t enough features or any other criticism you can hear now about the VisionPro. Well, didn‘t turn out too bad for Apple. Every.Single.Time.Learn from it!

@aral Better? I remember that up until the early 10s I never made phone calls on the road because I didn’t want to be the only dork to do that. Expectations change, the technology shrinks. Apple has the money and the patience to wait for it.

@aral I have more and more problems with normal screen sizes because of my eyes. So give me a 120”-250” screen and I’m ready to pay 3500$

@paninid @aral @gerrymcgovern About a million times more water is lost by leaky water pipes. A few data centres don’t really add up, if you look at the numbers…

@aral @paninid @gerrymcgovern Of course, but our energy would be better used first fixing the real problems and then going after the crumbles 🙂

@jmeyer @GossiTheDog WhoTF cares wether the worlds largest Nazi network is down? #Twitter and #Tesla and #SpaceX all have to die, the faster the better. Only then the #US have a chance to save their democracy.

@andypiper @404mediaco @Flipboard There are three constants in human history:1. Change2. People explaining that change will destroy all we love3. Today's change will be the glorious past people will want to go back to in 20 yearsDoes anybody else remember the exact same discussions when computers started killing jobs in the 90ies? When the internet started killing traditional media 20 years ago? Wenn Wikipedia started killing the knowledge monopoly of experts?

@dennyhenke @janeishly I have tried it over and over again. FOSS is just too bad UI/UX-wise and waaaaay too ugly for me. Bill Atkinson didn’t die to have his mid-eighties research being trampled on by engineers without a hint of aesthetic and functional know how. I want a computer that is a joy to use. I am Swiss, we have a long tradition of living in the midst of excellent design everywhere. No way I’m moving to the software equivalent of Russia.
