You know what I think is odd? That when I browse to a new #Mastodon profile (either via Megalodon or the web app), the profile shows zero posts. Sometimes it will show pinned posts.I get that toots are populated on a push basis, but the #ActivityPub spec specifically allows for retrieval of user outboxes as well. At least from a #ux perspective, when visiting a new profile, you should definitely at least see some of their recently posted content, pulled directly from the remote instance.

@tante no because the definition of "hustle" is to highlight wins and minimize losses. I've got an acquaintance (used to be a friend) who bought into Bitcoin. He preached endlessly about how the Canadian Dollar was going to go bust, and that BTC was the future. To go around doomsaying about an entire first-world country's economy is just something else...

@stanford good point! We don't highlight the #foss aspect as much because we sell hosting, professional support & maintenance, and custom dev in order to feed ourselves and fund development of the forum software. We're a one product shop and every dollar we earn goes towards #nodebb 🙂I like to stay principled when it comes to our offering. You won't see a gimped "community" version while gating the cool stuff behind a paywall. Most things we build are available to everyone under #mit license.

@deadsuperhero @nodebb @atomicpoet @fediversenews that's very interesting. I'm especially interested if what is rumoured in that topic (that Flarum is also interested in #ActivityPub integration) is true. It sounds like a really good opportunity to work together to make something really really cool.Knowing nothing and judging just by the screenshots it looks like Discourse wants to have the entire forum broadcast out, instead of user-by-user? Interesting approach.

@luceos @smallcircles @deadsuperhero @nodebb @atomicpoet @fediversenews that's wonderful to hear! We're big fans of you here at #nodebb 🙂Maybe we'll be the first two forums able to speak to each other, wouldn't that be neat...We can lob trolls from the safety of our own forum instances LOL

If I were to try to convince my local municipality to move off of #Twitter and onto #Mastodon, what instance should I recommend?mstdn.ca seems like a good generic choice (administered by @chad @jace, and more?)Anything else?#TwitterMigration

@kyle No answers here, but just reflecting on your post.It really makes me wonder how ANY of us got into this field considering the relatively horrible coding conditions. Green-on-back screen on my 286. DOS 5. QBASIC.You'd think it would've been much easier to watch television but somehow I persevered 😂

@wjmaggos @FediPact @jawarajabbi tinfoil hat on... Exposure of "trending" content would be a first step in extending the #ActivityPub protocol, even if it is not enthusiastically embraced by implementors #Meta would just be aiming for buy-in from a couple big ones.

Today, like most of this week, I worked on follow logic for @nodebb (#nodebbActivityPub) — follow/unfollow is now working, and now I can browse follow lists from remote accounts too!

Does there exist a brief write-up of how content is federated out? Do different #ActivityPub implementors federate content differently? (@stesnac suggests so!)Here's my head-canon at present... when a note is created, the note is sent to all followers. If users are mentioned, the note is also sent to those users' inboxes. If a note is addressed to the public collection, do it just get blasted to all known instances' inboxes?https://snac.bsd.cafe/stesnac/p/1704724939.498114#fedidev

That's an interesting analogy, and I think that despite its drawbacks, there is merit in it. We can at minimum assume that over time compatibility between instances will trend toward improvement. As a potential implementor myself, I am at times both excited about and worried that I may just be contributing to the "noise" of compatibility issues 😆 @stesnac

@oranadoz @stesnac thanks! Time to revisit this series of posts. It was crucial in my initial understanding when I first looked into this last year.

@JsonCulverhouse @stesnac that makes complete sense, it would be a little silly if instances just blindly accepted any content sent their way 😅I guess the question from my end really is, how is content federated to my instance if not via a boost or reply? Sometimes I see content completely unrelated, but it could be relayed (I think I have one set up)...

@aral indeterminate checkboxes are definitely a thing. We use them in @nodebb when we need to render a checkbox state that is not explicitly checked.
