October is Blindness Awareness month. I know we all have a lot to be aware of, from COVID to BIPOC concerns. But, blind people are some of the most disadvantaged people in the world, not having the visual sense that so many take for granted. Please, support your nearest blind person, with your programming knowledge, describing your media or art, or if the blind person is poor, with money or anything to help them feel seen. Thank you to everything you do to include people with disabilities.

KDE has voted to make accessibility one of its main goals for the next three years! That's pretty great! #a11y #kde

@Natsura Don't worry, we'll all name our children Natsumi and you'll never be alone again. :)

Thank you all for helping me with food money! You all mean so much to me! In the day-long meeting we had at work Monday, our exec director said that new AT trainers will be paid $20 per hour, and hopefully I'll be upgraded to that soon too. So then I'll be able to help you all more too! I'm incredibly thankful for this!

There's now an accessible Reddit client on Linux, created by a blind user! It's in early development, but can already view subs, post, comment, and do link flaires. As I've said many times before, the more Linux becomes accessible, the more blind developers will create for it, and the more users will look into config files and begin their dev journey.https://github.com/meatbag93/reddy#a11y #reddit #Linux #gtk

The source code for the old DecTalk speech synthesizer, which is loved by some in the blind community, was given out by some of the origianal developers. Find it here! https://github.com/dectalk/dectalk/ There are build instructions for Windows and Linux. #a11y #tts #blind

Y'all I'm getting my pay raise soon! I'm really happy! So at the end of this month I should be able to see how much I'll be making.

For non-blind Android users, is there a way to tell what will happen if one swipes right or left on an item?

So eventually, when work from home becomes too big for big corporate corpses to ignore, they'll build "laborhoods": big blocks of dormitories connected to workplaces so if you get fired from your job you immediately get evicted. Lovely right? #dystopia #futurology

Please boost for reach: To any F-droid developers, is there a way for tags or categories to be added by developers or users, like "accessible", so that users could then filter apps by that tag? This could be useful for people to find accessible #foss apps for Android. Perhaps another tag could be added, "not accessible", so that users or developers could mark apps that are not, or cannot, be made accessible as well.#a11y #android #fdroid

A survey I participated in has released an article, about "Maintaining Values: Navigating Diverse Perspectives in Value-Charged Discussions in Open Source Development". It's a PDF, but it's quite accessible: https://jackjamieson.net/wp-content/uploads/jamieson_cscw2022_maintaining_values.pdf

@devinprater Well I mean it's... mostly accessible. Still words with letters missing or words smashed together. Ah well. It's how it is.

Situation of the day: is it better to have stability and less features, or many features but have this annoying bug where tapping an email in the inbox selects it instead of opening it? Ugh what a bug! To make things clear, this is yet another Android versus iOS thing. Specifically, the iOS issue is with a Braille display connected. And no, I wouldn't doubt if no one else has this bug.

@antijingoist Yeah. I guess when I do these surveys and stuff, I should specify that if the findings are going to be in a PDF, I'm not going to participate because then my voice in the matter is locked into an awful format.

So um, does anyone have experience with making either a wiki or a website, with forums and such? I want to try to amke something like applevis.com, but for Android users. They do have blindandroidusers.com but that's basically just a list of their podcast eppisodes.

The entire Twitter accessibility team was fired. I fear that this will give FOSS communities the excuse that "well Twitter doesn't have / need a11y now, so why should we continue to work on it?" Because before, when I fought for image description reminders and better visibility for Alt text boxes, I could point to Twitter.
