@BecomingKelsey once you have your bearings, I highly recommend switching to a local Canadian server. Your experience will be MUCH better/faster. I use @mstdn.ca. There is a way to transfer without losing your followers. The server you're on doesn't matter one bit, it just hosts your stuff/moderates content. Change servers any time. Get comfy first!

Mastodon is now ranked 3rd overall in Apple's top free apps being downloaded, beating TikTok (4th), Google (5th), WhatsApp (6th), and Instagram (7th). By the way, Twitter is at 31, which is down from 27 last time I checked. Officially got my first troll dropping slurs at me. This site's reporting and blocking system is excellent. Use it. Your admin and the host admin of the troll can be notified. Your host admin can take further action to block an entire server and everyone on there. They can block the IP address of that server, making it difficult for trolls to get around. You can also block entire instances yourself! This is part of why the small community approach is so powerful. #mastodon #twittermigration

Someone followed me from a sketchy instance. My home server flagged it for me to review because they wanted to make sure I'm okay with the values of that server. I find this really fascinating. I love that #accessibility is prioritized on #mastodon as a photographer. Giving that description makes me look at my photos and write a mini essay of why I thought the shot was interesting. I saw someone say that the Andrew Tate arrest story shows you can’t get the same entertainment value on Mastodon as Twitter. Correct. Instead of becoming a powerful influencer, Andrew Tate would have been instance-level blocked a long time ago and just disappeared on Mastodon.
