       You may have an idea about the Netherlands as a modern, progressive country, but did you know we have a yearly holiday called Sinterklaas (the OG Santa Claus), who traditionally was accompanied by blackface helpers?There has been a decades long fight against this racist, colonial practice and only recently the blackface helpers called Zwarte Piet are on their way out.But still, there are Dutch communities who insist on using this racist stereotype.

       Ik zie net een toot van @stux dat we geen Kamerleden moeten uitschelden, want Mastodon moet een veilige plek zijn voor iedereen.Nu ben ik niet per se van het schelden om het schelden, maar dit is wel een problematisch standpunt.Want om Mastodon echt veilig te maken, moeten we ons kunnen verzetten tegen mensen die extreem-rechts zijn. Die tegen transrechten zijn. Die voor Zwarte Piet zijn. Die weigeren de klimaatcrisis aan te pakken. Die de wooncrisis in de hand hebben gewerkt. Die Groningen laten stikken. Die asielzoekers laten creperen. Die met hun corona-aanpak zorgen dat kwetsbare mensen hun huis niet uit kunnen. Dat soort Kamerleden moet je hard aanpakken, en als daar bij gescholden wordt: soit.Als je dat gaan tone policen, gaat het je niet om veiligheid, maar om gezelligheid voor een selecte geprivilegieerde groep.

       By unbanning Trump (amongst many others) Elon Musk is purposefully making Twitter (and by extension the world) an unsafe place for marginalized people all over the world.We should not simply flee from Twitter, but actively work together to break its power.Consider your stay on Mastodon a political statement, because that's what it really is. And consider not just focussing on your own comfort, away from the ruckus of hateful tweeters, but also contributing on building a lasting infrastructure were all people can be safe. And you don't need to be technical to do that. Promote using the Fediverse as a political and philosophical necessity.It should be clear to you by now that media (be it social or otherwise) in corporate hands can never be truly safe.        @GreenFire Republicans can basically be discarded as people you cannot reason with. The politicians mostly, some of the voters may still be redeemed.But it's the Democrats who stand in the way of real progress. The way they have pandered to Wallstreet ans always sought bipartisan solutions to everything...The left attack the Democrats, because next to the Republicans, they should be "the left". But besides a few notable exceptions, the Democrats are NOT left wing.And America really needs them to be.

En het gaat eindeloos mee, want het roest niet en verteert niet!Onze grenzeloze domheid zit in de stap daarna: dat we dat prachtige plastic zijn gaan gebruiken voor verpakkingen en wegwerpartikelen.
