@timnitGebru It has to be exhausting to be Black on fedi.I wonder what the rest of us could do to help? One (long standing) critique I've heard by Black users is that blocking is unidirectional - I can block you and not see your content, but by default you could still see mine. Maybe we could campaign for that issue to be addressed, which would add friction to harassment?Or, you know, we could all agree not to be awful to each other. 🙄

I am a climate organizer and a social impact technologist based in the Northeast United States. My concern with #riptwitter is that the #fediverse doesn't have capacity for allll those people right away. Massively growing mastodon.social just wont work! The major draw of the fediverse is that human moderators enforce code of conduct for a community of people that agree with it. Throwing everyone in a big common space is a recipe for overwhelmed mods in an impossible situation.The only way this works is if the load of incoming users is spread out across many instances. There needs to be a pool of people willing to run and moderate all these people. That's not simple, it's not like flipping a switch - it's a learned skill. #mastodon is lovely, but peoples' experiences are going to degrade with servers that are too large.My two cents. 😔
