@datenschutzratgeber There is a big difference between nobody being able to communicate and some people not being able to communicate directly. Also you can fix your server being down on Matrix, you are powerless if someone else hosts your server.

@SheDrivesMobility Kp, irgendwie stößt man in der linken Bubble auf der Birdsite irgendwann auf dich und nachdem du deine Fedi-Creds gepostet hast...

@artfulsodger Just be aware that only one of the 2 2fa options works with it.

@artfulsodger I tried to fix it before, but it was a bit too complicated for me. I hope it works for you now though!

@Wyndix Because it is supported everywhere. Why would it not use them?

@Wyndix If you use http/2 the overhead isn't that great. Since you reuse the same connection and just send some headers back and forth. Listening on a socket or long polling doesn't behave that differently apart from the heartbeat (when nothing happens) being slightly heavier. JSON is not as efficient as a binary protocol, but you can always upgrade that to CBOR to reduce the payload size and other protocols use XML, which isn't smaller either.

@Wyndix I don't think those arguments apply to http/2 and 3. You can do parallel requests over that and most libraries are async. Most protocols are synchronous if you look at the actual socket traffic, but http provides proper framing so that it doesn't have to be that way. And routing and load-balancing is barely a downside, if you want to be able to scale to millions of users, is it? Also, do you want an unauthenticated chat protocol?

@Wyndix Well, bad is always relative to something else and usually everything has downsides as well as benefits. It's not bad to ask about those!

I struggled a bit synchronizing #Valheim and #Matrix, but I solved it: https://nheko.im/nheko-reborn/valheimmatrixMakes it easier to have a discussion with people without requiring everyone to be online or having to write an overlay.

You know the custom of having a cheesy goal for the next year? Well, I had Raclette for new years, so my only goal was to have at least one #Nheko release! And for that reason and to get all the planned things out of the way for this year, it is my pleasure to announce #Nheko 0.11.0!Threads, search, pushrules, unread indicator, confetti and much more at https://github.com/Nheko-Reborn/nheko/releases/tag/v0.11.0 or from the other places you usually get your packages from!(For anyone who doesn't know, Nheko is a #matrix client)

Since I enjoyed the last poll, here is the next one:In your #matrix client, do you prefer (when using markdown as input) to have a single line-break follow the markdown specification and render as a space or should it emit a hard-break (a <br> tag)?In either case 2 line-breaks map to a paragraph break and 1 line-break with 2 spaces before it maps to a <br> tag.I would prefer to not make it an option, so that the test matrix stays small and the out of box experience is okay.#nheko

Hey, since usually asking questions here works quite well, I will try that again:What makes a #matrix client something, that you would recommend to other people to try (even if you might not want to use it yourself). Or rather, what makes the client stable enough for day to day use for you. And what would make you recommend a client to someone as their first client to get started with #matrix?I am aware, that everyone has different opinions there, so I am trying to gather everything. <3

@matrix I think that blog post is disingenuous, but please correct me if I am misunderstanding somethings: Until a week ago the archive did list also rooms with public join rules and world-readable history. That is what many people were upset about. You don't seem to address that in any way. That behavior was changed by an outside contribution in https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-public-archive/commit/1d3e930fbd57788ed60494a64835127ff97dbd53Instead of blaming this on a misunderstanding, please be honest in your communication.
