rate my new laptop that just came in this morning...the students always find it odd when I present with a 10-year old ARM chromebook, maybe I should start trolling them by presenting with increasingly weird devices as the semester progresses

@foone not sure exactly what you're doing this time, but if you need an award winning spiral program that's 32 bytes long, here you go: https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=96019

digging through my Apple II collection I found everyone's favorite obscure crossover. She always seemed to be hiding in Ae'gura

can't seem to stop adding more locations to Apple II Riven.Up to 13 floppy disks now, that's more than Sierra infamously had with "Time Zone". Probably for the best I added hard-disk support.Hitting the limitations of my game engine, especially in 5-sided rooms (engine only supports 4 directions per room)

bizzarre coincidence found when grading embedded system homework.to get mcp3008 to read channel 1/2 you need to write 0x80/0x90student was doingout1=1000000; out2=10010000;(note, no 0b at front, so decimal value not binary)this should not work at all, butby some extremely weird coincidence(?) those decimal values are 0x989680 and 0x98bd90 so the bottom bytes have the correct value so the code worked?too late at night to try to work out how unlikely this is

the next part of the homework they are supposed to read channel2, so I was thinking no way they could continue having it work. But it did, because they set it to "10020000" which isn't even binary anymore which I would have hoped would have led them to re-examine their choices

@foone I wrote a game like that back in the day, probably in a similar timeframeIt was written in Turbo Pascal which could only do real mode, but I was targeting a 386 so it had a lot of hand-written x86 32-bit assembly sprinkled in. Also the soundblaster code I was using (also written by a teenager) was using XMS (I think?) to store the sound samples

@foone the game also glitched out weirdly in cutscenes for me back in the day too. We had a trident TVGA super vga card of some sort.

a 2661 byte program I wrote just won the "Sur Prize" at the International Obfuscated C Code Competition. You can probably guess what it is once I mention that @foone might enjoy ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2ulsnSTbUQ

urgh I threw that video together at the last minute here, didn't prep in advance because didn't think it would win. Anyway that explains the extra "n" in Winner in the title card but I am probably too lazy to fix it

hitting the stage of procrastination where I figured out how to inject arbitrary images into the DOS "Second Reality" demo. This is in the actual demo running on dosbox. It's harder than you'd think! I feel like @foone might appreciate this
