Swathing oats on the Canadian Prairies. 1972."Next to wheat and barley, oats form the most important grain crop grown on the Canadian Prairies. Approximately 230 million bushels are harvested every year. In the photo, a farmer is using a swather to cut the ripe oats, which will lie on the stubble till dry. A combine will complete the job by picking up the rows and separating the kernels from the chaf and straw.#postcards

Does the appearance of French radio stations in the car cause anyone else to exclaim “Baguette, Baguette”, “ou est la piscine? Splish Splash!” in the style of Flight of the Conchords?

@publius was it Roddas?Though I think they say “The Creamery” not “The Dairy”. Ahh yep… we have some in the fridge. They are definitely “the” clotted cream place. In Scorrier, near Redruth. @stug

I think conventional wisdom is that stopping leaks is about making sure no water from above can get through. In Cornwall the rain comes in sideways… or even defies gravity and gets blown up around the top of things, from below.

If it was feasible for a true (at least somewhat-independently maintained) fork of Firefox to happen I think we would have seen it by now. Certainly enough people here have been angered many times.Everything out there is basically just a rebrand, and disable/remove some features exercise, that talks itself up as if it’s an independent project 🤷♂️

A Texan visitor to our Cornish scene this morning. The city of Frisco in North Texas now uses the historic logo of the St Louis - San Francisco Railroad that runs through it. We lived in Carrollton, a short walk from the where the Frisco and Cotton Belt Railroad, which has now partly become DART’s (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) new Silver Line, cross. #ModelRailways

@tregeagle last year at the museum there was an exhibition with several paintings of Cornish and Australian mining landscapes. Including ones of Broken Hill. I forget the name of the artist.
