@Mummabear this isn’t allowing people through without any checks. It is using automated facial recognition to speed up the process by eliminating the human doing the work - the uk has had e-gates for nearly 20 years - ever since the chip was added to the passport. They are now just removing the need to use the passport and chip (which held the biometric hash data it checked you against) and instead relying completely on advance passenger information (in use for decades too).

@Cosmic missed the chance to vote, but yes - Microsofties are often considered the dumb relations of the software engineering world - and are more likely to be incompetent at actual programming, reason, logic than others. Obviously a broad generalisation, but that is the perception - Microsoft are good at selling their shit, but their shit still stinks.

@commandlinekid @Cosmic lol, a full page cycle for server side logic was the norm in .NET back then…. It was stupid and unnecessary, and resulted in terrible user experience and performance. It was the ugly stepchild of the emerging web app revolution. Laughable.

@RevCyberTrucker if you have to inspect your lady friend’s lady garden to decide if she is an adult or not, then perhaps you’ve already crossed the line into free-puppy land? I certainly don’t need to see if she has a welcome mat to tell the difference… so it makes no difference in that regard if it is there or not when I’m visiting. Nice to keep things tidy though.
