There's apparently 40 million raspberry pis in the world. That probably means there's more sat on shelves "waiting for a project" than there are people on mastodon. The main mastodon servers are struggling under the weight of the #TwitterMigrationIf you've got an unused #RaspberryPi and a free hour, consider using @yunohost to set up your own personal instance. You'll be shocked how easy it is.

@freemo @yunohost qoto is also blocked by a lot of instances because it refuses to defederate with far right servers, yet we're still able to have this conversation. If instance admins want to defederate with me for running on a single user instance, that's their prerogative, I can still reach most of the network. If other people want to contact me, but their admins won't let them, self hosting is the cheapest way out of that walled garden.

@notjustbikes I can as someone who's been following people arguing with @tilvids about their site's policies for ages, I'm coming around to their position. There's a lot of nasty stuff on the wider Peertube network. Locking down an instance then very cautiously making connections would be the way to do it if you ever did decide to.

@boilingsteamIt's really good for streaming. You get to adjust the delay so you can choose how much load is handled by the swarm vs just your server.

@boilingsteamIt's all round pretty good. It might take some experimenting if you're wanting to do live transcoding on low power hardware though. I think when I was working on my calendar plugin I just about managed the original stream +240p on raspberry pi 4.

@aralThis keeps happening to my domains. I think Google might be over sensitive to a lot of roll-your-own websites and possibly misidentifies them as phishing attempts. It's fucking infuriating. There's a lot of innocent people getting caught up in @yunohost 's mentions because of it. It seems they've got really over vigilant in the last few weeks. Some anecdotes suggest it might be down to incorrect redirects but I haven't been able to track them down yet.@dozykraut @dick_turpin

@appsIs it possible to make the p2p player work inline as well as on the peertube view?

@boilingsteam it's hard to believe this isn't real footage. If you really concentrate, it looks like some of the shaders are a bit off. Gotta wonder if this is a result of seeing what happens when you build a game on graphics cards that were designed for AI not gaming. Like we've come full circle since people started running seti@home on PlayStations.

@boilingsteam so that's why big corps are suddenly very concerned with regulation?
