@aral this is sometimes known as veal-penning, courtesy of Jane Hamsher in the late 00s. That was when lots of us started paying closer attention to "do the Board of Directors have any skin in the game?"https://www.docudharma.com/2009/11/neoliberal-money-giving-and-the-veal-pen

I liked the Onion better when it was satire. It's gotten kind of depressing since they switched straight news.(Figure with new ownership taking over maybe it's time to crank up some of the old schtick again.)https://www.theonion.com/advisors-assure-biden-this-will-blow-over-once-all-gaza-1851452315

@ZachWeinersmith this is why I started using Judenhass to distinguish "traditional" antisemitism from what gets called antisemitic now.For the foreseeable future it's going to be impossible to talk about some of the things that are actually happening without getting acussed of antisemitism, so we're going to need terms that clearly preserve the distinction between anti-Zionism and antiseitism.

@futurebird > doesn't really want to unleash this kind of energyIt's not necessary to be delicate about it when it's deliberate. Obama in particular was perfectly clear and direct about not wanting to "unleash that kind of energy." He did it out in the open at least twice that I can think of without any research: the OFA reorg immediately on taking office, and his lobbying strategy during ACA vs M4A fight. The GOP base's "leash" broke with McCain, which is a whole other fascinating story.

@NeonPurpleStar what do you suppose is motivating that person to deliberately demoralize democratic party support? Is it just to get views? Are they secretly on the side of the fascists? Something else altogether?@ErikUden

@NeonPurpleStar right, but I'm not asking anything to do with tiktok or what the best option is.You said that person was engaged in deliberately anti-Dem propaganda. I'm curious what you think about why they're doing that. Do you think they're getting paid? Are they angry that Democrats aren't doing something they want done? What's your preferred explanation for that? @ErikUden

Watching the "why isn't he campaigning" discourse about Trump, and thinking back to the discourse about Biden before he dropped out, it occurs to me that lots and lots of people have been exposed to incompetent bosses, and asshole bosses, but not many people have been exposed to bosses with actually significant cognitive deficits.
