@penguin42 good question! We mention that as an option, but we wanted to focus on the Arduino because it's cheaper, has a nice set of libraries available and can be used independent of the Pi logging direct to SD cards if they don't care about viewing on a monitor and remote VNC

Science is hard and there's a lot of bullshit and nonsense to fight through, but nothing beats those moments when you write another researcher and ask them "Heard of this thing? I want to know about it, actually HAVE to know about it, have you studied it?" And they're like "dude I KNOW, how weird is that, let's study it" and suddenly you got a collab goin

@clive @pluralistic Facebook apps generally run terribly on my phone. Instagram doesn't scale correctly to my screen, gets stuck after posting a story needing reset. The other day I discovered posting multiple pictures is just broken entirely. FB has become too sprawling to maintain QAQC

Clams help protect us from harmful algae! In mesocosm experiments (300 L tanks simulating the natural environment), quahogs were able to draw down Aureococcus populations from tens of thousands of cells/L to zero within a couple days. The degree of decline was related directly to the number of clams present! Aureococcus causes "brown tides" which cause millions of dollars of damage to fisheries every year, and the clams help us fight them for free! Thanks clams! #clamFacts

My office is downwind from a Costco bakery, so I get hit with a powerful cinnabun smell every time I walk outside. It's basically the only type of pollution I approve of.
