Finished https://compilerbook.com in which you turn your tree-walking interpreter (book 1) into a compiler + VM. Monkey-C now does fibonacci(35) in ~3 seconds!Highly recommend these two books. Follow along in another language for double the fun!

Managed to bring it down to ~1.7 seconds because of this comment in CPython's source explaining the performance gain for using computed GOTO's (vs a big ol' switch statement).

@curtismchale Haha well... But maybe at least compiled or running through a VM? PHP 8’s JIT will surely help!

What better time to get my hands on an Arduino kit? Hopefully it has all the things I need as I’m not sure whether I can order anything else in a few days.

I'd like to use my Raspberry Pi to add artificial latency for some domain look-ups, eg for Twitter and other social media. Any pointers? I should probably be able to modify Pi-hole for this?

@nvi Nice, that looks close to what I want to do, thank you. Now to see if I can somehow apply that only for traffic to/from certain domains...

@Coffee This was a good read, thank you for sharing. I'm curious though, do you think Mastodon improves on this in any way?Not optimizing for interactions is one (pretty huge) thing I could think of, so only showing whatever the people I follow shared chronologically. But what else?
