It's interesting *why* the VCs are becoming ever more right wing and "anti-woke". Partially it's because they live in a bubble and breathe each others' farts, but it's also the realisation that the easy gains of the early 2000s internet are gone, the easy money is no longer there, and they need an authoritarian government to enforce the monopolisation, surveillance, tax avoidance and regulatory capture to keep them rich in perpetuity.

@Npars01 @northernlights @georgetakei fascist movements have always had their fanatical female followers. Some even took part in atrocities. Perhaps not in the same numbers as men, but nonetheless. Collaboration suggests a pragmatic approach for ones own survival, but there were plenty female Nazis who were true believers.

I wonder if the WSJ article on Musk's ketamine (well, more than just ketamine) is indicative of an empire about to collapse.i.e. not only is there overwhelming evidence, but there is also no fear of legal retaliation from the billionaire, because things are about to fall apart very quickly

@aral American colleges are so bizarre and like everything else they are this weird outlier in the Western world.In Europe for example if you want to be a professional footballer you get signed a club. In the US the colleges are more like a football club that teaches poetry or physics as a side hustle.

@aral the problem for decent Americans is that they don't live in a proper democracy, and have the choice between voting for a flawed president and continuing business-as-usual or choosing (either directly or by voting 3rd party or not at all) a full-throated fascist who will double down in support of Netanyahu, and quite possibly abolish whatever is left of US democracy entirely.
