Ende Oktober letztes Jahres habe ich ard.social und zdf.social geklickt. Einerseits in dem Wissen, dass die Anstalten systemisch Late to the Party sind (sorry!) und Domaingrabbing durch professionelle Grabber idR trotz Markenschutz teuer und nervig ist. Erst tat sich nichts, bis das Team von @janboehm kommissarisch die ZDF-Domain übernahm (danke!). @Jain @ErikUden Um es kurz zu machen: Zumindest bei einer der Anstalten war der Plan, dass die .social domain nur eine Umleitung wird. Man hat sich erst später dagegen entschieden. Ich halte das für sekundär. Wirklich schade finde ich, dass ard.social Accounts nicht verified sind.

@randahl Sorry, unless we suddenly start to take non-elective OTA updates without safeguards such as independently reviewed, reproducible source code builds as the theoretical but very possible general threat that they are, I fail to see how this is special. Even more so because @briankrebs boosted it.Vendor-forced OTA updates are an accepted practice. Attack the practice, not the practitioner.

@briankrebs @randahl point taken, but the article is baity to the point of being false. They did not find a backdoor, unless all auto-OTA devices are considered backdoored (which is an assumption most of us professionals work under, but not the articles' general public audience). With a headline like this, I would expect an actual remotely triggerable reverse shell tbh.

I am not sure if everyone who is outraged by the insane rise in RAM pricing understands that this is solely because a billionaire bought 40% of all memory chip production. Not because he needs it, just to oust the competition. And the entire IT sector, and all private PC owners, have been taken prisoners in the process.
