       @stux I find it odd that jobs can move from country to country in search of cheap labor, but workers are not able to move to find jobs.

       @rbreich The only thing these politicians care about is the next election and the best way to fund those elections is cutting taxes for their rich donors. As long as elections are funded by the rich we will never have true representation.

       @stux I can't speak about other countries, but in the United States we have endless money for war and no money to feed the hungry, cloth the poor, or house the homeless. It is very discouraging.

       @bananarama @stux Socials Security spending comes from payroll taxes specifically designed for the purpose. To compare that with military spending is comparing apples and oranges. The only contribution to the deficit by Social Security is the interest paid on the Treasuries purchased with Social Security surpluses in the past. The money would go to any lender.

       @bananarama @stux On that point we agree. Unfortunately, too many social service programs have been handed off to the states where little of the money ends up in the hands of those who need it. Many states have proven they can't be trusted with things like TANF funds.

       @stux I have always been disgusted by the "good guy with a gun" narrative. Police shoot innocent people by accident regularly. How much worse does it get when some wannabe hero gets involved. Owning a gun increases your odds of being shot with a gun. I have lived 50 years in the United States without one and I plan to continue.

       @stux This like many of our other societal problems can be linked to our religious dedication to Capitalism. It is in the best interest of gun makers to promote gun ownership at all costs. Our medical system is a mess because insurance companies love their profits. Etc. Etc.
