@seldo I've been cross country skiing since like age 3, and I love it. But I thrive in the cold, and I know it's very much not some people's thing. There's also nothing like a good winter hike, in my book. It's incredibly scenic, and it's fun to go up to the mountains and see just how much snow is on the ground.(Husband in photos — and that's not even the deepest. Several similar signs at higher elevations along the same trail are completely buried at this point.)

@pjohanneson @pluralistic There was one still a real classic one in place at Colter Bay Visitor Center in Grand Teton National Park when we passed through in early October. It was the first I've seen in ages. They used to be so important when I was a kid on vacation with my parents, travelling in a truck camper. We would find one every few days to call home, alternating between my maternal grandparents and paternal grandmother, with each of them subsequently relaying the details to the other.

@futurebird It doesn't self fill or have the little dishwasher, so it's a very different sort of gadget, but this tea maker from Breville is available in a US model. It was the first appliance purchase my now-husband and I saved up for together (a real extravagance at the time), and it's served us well for over a decade now.https://www.breville.com/us/en/products/tea/btm800.htmlYou can set the temperature and steep time, and it'll just take care of that for you. Can even schedule it so you wake up to a waiting pot of tea.

@futurebird It depends. In my car or on a remote or something like that? Absolutely not.The buttons on my stove, though? I actually like those being capacitive. So much easier to wipe down. Also prefer them on ear wireless earbuds. The ones I had with physical buttons, I felt like I was driving them down into my ear canals when I operated them.I think it really depends on the application and the thought and care that went into the design, and it's something that can be done well.
