A sunset picture from Nimitz Cove, Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii, made 11 November 2023. It's a stack of three bracketed exposures, aligned in Hugin and turned into an EXR image, then processed in Luminance HDR.#sunset #Hawaii #Kapolei #AYearForArt

@Nathaniellockhart @mos_8502 I met people in the Commodore Hawaii User Group (CHUG) many decades ago when I handed over to them my collection of Commodore VIC-20 and C64 computers, peripherals, etc.One member was writing a realtime stock trading system on his C64 in 6510 Assembler. I have no idea how it turned out. Since the C64 could only do 300baud serial, I doubt it was very close to realtime!

It's sad that game developers can't plan for really separating their games into components. Linux would have no problem with a "game-core" package. and "game-1080p", "game-4k", etc.Oh, well. Glad I'm not a gamer!https://www.pcworld.com/article/2411350/im-sick-of-pc-games-wasting-my-bandwidth-on-4k-textures.html#linux #games #gamedev

@futurebird As everyone else mentioned, M3U. M3U is basically just a list of filenames. I don't do streaming services. I generate M3Us for folders in my music collection by opening a command prompt and simply listing the files to an M3U file.VLC has a playlist format that uses XML. I don't know how universal their format is.

@sullybiker Interesting. About 20 years ago, a large private school system I used to work for finally got around to demolishing the interior of an old building. In the process, they found a Novell Netware server, still running, that much earlier remodeling had walled up inside a storage closet.Sounds to me like old Netware rules the reliability roost!

@bug 'Tis possible to be both evil and incompetent. I sometimes think that the larger an organization becomes, the lower its collective IQ becomes. But maybe I'm just bitter, too.

@wolf480pl @bug Not necessarily. An attempt to do evil might fail horribly, yet only drive you (like a good entrepreneur!) to try again!Luck can afflict both good and evil, so even an incompetent attempt at evil might succeed from pure luck...

@futurebird Hmm, Etrusca is a very hilly region, so they get a lot of workouts walking up and down all the time?

@stux Every few months, I login to LinkedIn, see what the two people I follow there are posting about, logout.I used to get all kinds of stupid spam messages from recruiters misinterpreting terms in my profile. Yes, I own my little business. That doesn't mean I'm interested in franchising my little business or other such, yet I got piles of offers about how I could turn it into a lucrative franchise operation.I'm retired, take your lies elsewhere!

@Puck @strypey @pluralistic So, you moved from Mozilla to avoid "enshitification", to a browser based on Google's Chromium? Like Google has never enshittified anything, ever, I'm sure, as it continues to fight antitracking and support privacy invasion on the internet.Of course, bringing down Mozilla will also topple all other browsers that use its engine; none have the resources to do more than make their own individual patches to Mozilla source...Oh, well.

@futurebird No, I don't wonder where they "go". They never go away here, but we don't really have winter. Our order of ant baits arrives Sunday and I hope will put an end to the invasion of ghost ants we have here.

@futurebird We live in Hawaii. They're invasive, although they've been in the islands for ~100 years now(brought over on ships).Trying to dry anything out around here (especially at this time of year) is virtually impossible. We live in the dry west side of Oahu, there are no surface streams in our area. One of the sprinkler pipes broke awhile back and was repaired, yet the ground in that area still looks wet. Hard to tell, it's been raining about a week now.Ideas?

@futurebird Yeah, confuses non-techies. Hexadecimal digits make perfect sense to me, but I'm weird.Maybe Base36? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base36
