@mattblaze The sorcery is the higher voltage. The power lost in the wires (ie the amount of wire heating) is always I²R, regardless of the voltage. So you can deliver as much power as you want as long as you keep the current below 5A.

@futurebird A mutual friend set us up by giving us free tickets to a football game with his group, and making sure we sat together. We just happened to hit it off. Him feeding us alcohol the entire time helped.

@futurebird @LevZadov @spv @Sunny My degree program was for future Canadian Forces officers. I had more humanities electives than any other engineering program in Ontario, well above the accreditation requirement. The military needs well rounded people.

@tomjennings @mastodonmigration @licho This is predominantly the lower orbits. GPS is here, but also most of the weather satellites and earth resources monitoring (think forests and crops). The major satellite links are in the geosynchronous orbits which are further out and heavily regulated and monitored because they are so valuable. It takes a lot of energy to get out there, so they should be safe.
