So last night, a "progressive" "ally" with >40,000 Twitter followers and a platform in multiple newspapers misgendered me, then when ONE PERSON was like "hey that's not cool" replied with "this is why we can't have nice things".Sure, the tiniest bit of criticism for being hurtful towards trans people, that is definitely what is wrong with society. Being able to be nasty to us without even the slightest pushback, that's what would make the world a better place.

(And for what it's worth: being misgendered on the Internet by a stranger is… not great, but it happens often enough that it doesn't really get through to me. It's just that someone with such a huge platform having a sook about getting called on it is just… idk.)

so apparently old mate fired a bunch of Twitter SREs. Including one who just lost access during their on-call rotation. So it'll be interesting to see if it even survives the weekend.

@mym @cwebber my anchor partner is cis, but nearly every “cis man” she dates subsequently comes out as trans/nb/gq, including me 😂

Reasons to *not* title your blog post, conference talk, or whatever "X Considered Harmful":• It's an inherently combative and inflammatory framing that undermines whatever point you're trying to make.• It's an incredibly overused and tired cliché.• it is quite possibly the most unbelievably arrogant and cowardly use of the passive voice possible.

The template is a reference to "GOTO Considered Harmful", a letter submitted by Edsger Dijkstra to the Communications of the Association of Computing Machinery in 1968, when *my parents* were both toddlers. The title, however, wasn't chosen by Dijkstra, but rather by an editor of CACM.

@lowqualityfacts Smoke does have a RF attenuation effect, which (I think*) would affect WiFi signal range. So this one is kinda true!

@andrew not sure if this is directly related, but I kind of like the idea of a federated-decentralised hybrid. So something where the actual distribution of content and all the bandwidth intensive stuff is P2P, but all the things that are hard or impossible to make user-friendly (identity, discoverability, account recovery, key management, etc) happen on a federation of identity servers or something.

@andrew I think that might be a good way of solving the “running a mastodon/lemmy/etc server is expensive” problem and a lot of the social problems and perverse incentives that arise from that, but I’m also certain that there’s going to be a different set of pitfalls I haven’t thought of and a real risk of creating a “worst of both worlds” design. Also this is the sort of thing I’d love to dedicate time to working on, but not quite as much as I like having a stable, reliable income :(
