Hunter Thompson would go outside his house, half drunk, and shoot at things because he liked to hear the explosions.I don't have a gun, but I have a bow. I'm well into a cordless screwdriver (vodka and diet orange soda) and can confirm that semi-inebriated archery is a fantastic release. Highly recommended.

@allison I use Windows because I have to, and macOS and Linux because I want to. 🤓For Linux: I run stuff on Ubuntu Server and Raspberry Pi OS, and write code on KDE Neon.

Okay I tried Brave for, like, two months. Tonight, I got into a hardcore fight with it because it decided that I had changed networks and absolutely refused to connect to any website.Every other browser on my computer proved that I had a working Internet connection. None of the other browsers were having an issue. So hello, I'm back on Firefox. Every time I try another browser, I'm back on Firefox in less than three months. My only complaint: I wish Mozilla loved Firefox as much as I do.

@entreprecariat I ran across this article a few weeks ago that might be relevant to your interests. Don't know if you've seen it yet.https://hackaday.com/2021/03/28/a-deep-dive-into-e-ink-tag-hacking/

@entreprecariat Nah worries! I'd love to pick up a few of those tags along with some kind of easier method for programming them. The deep-dive linked off that site quickly outpaces my skillset. But damn, I do love eInk.

Hey can anyone recommend something in the way of a document management server software? Like, I've got tonnes of files; some are text, others are PDF, some DOCX, XLSX, and so on. We're not talking books, we're talking documentation, help files, spreadsheets, etc.Is there something out there (preferably with a browser based system) that I can throw this stuff at and make it searchable? It'd be great if I could just upload files en masse.

I think a lot of people would be shocked about how, in the year of our goddess 2022, so much important low level library tech shit runs on FTP and Telnet.

A new #introduction :Hi, I'm Dan, your little free Cyberpunk Librarian. I'm a systems librarian working primarily with Polaris ILS and serving as ILS admin for libraries across the United States. I work with all sizes of libraries from Shafter, CA to Boston Public. I'm a SQL hacker, data wrangler and storyteller, and analyst.I'm also the host of Cyberpunk Librarian, a podcast about libraries and technology with a tendency to focus on FOSS.Welcome to the Fediverse, I've put the kettle on.

@shellkr I am ALL FOR IT. Philosophically, I see Solarpunk and Cyberpunk as yin and yang. Where Cyberpunk is about high tech, darkness, and individualism; Solarpunk is about high tech, light, and community. One tends to focus on despair and the other on hope.I've been reading some Solarpunk stuff -- fiction and non -- and I think that philosophy is a positive way forward. Honestly, I'd like to keep cyberpunk fiction and make solarpunk a reality, ya know? ☀️

@shellkr It's a bit reactionary, to be sure. Because the world has become incredibly cyberpunk. As the old saying goes, the cyberpunk books were meant to be a warning, not a guide.

@shellkr Indeed! See, I talk about FOSS being a cyberpunk thing because I'm leveraging something fun an cool (cyberpunk) against something that might only be of mild interest to people (FOSS).In any cyberpunk novel, movie, or media - if a hacker discovers a new bit of tech or a new way to do something, they don't open source that! That's their edge, that's what's keeping them alive and putting food on the table.Solarpunk is literally all about sharing tech to put food on the table. 😄

@herag He wrote another book called The Sports Gene that was a bestseller. I'm not so interested in that one, but as an unabashed and unashamed generalist, this book was right up my alley.

Ya know, I need to send a shout out to data.world. I was working on a project where I needed to get a list of top 40 songs for, ya know, the last fifty years or so.There's a CSV for that.Last night I needed a data set of US blockbuster films going back, at least, to the 1970s.Yeah, they got a CSV for that too. They've got plenty of important data sets too, but they've also got the stupid, frivolous ones I need for my dumb projects. 😄
