@urusan Vermont is a fun one for this.They're called Creemees not soft-serve. There is a difference. Creemees have higher fat content than traditional soft-serve.You will see people in shorts in sub-zero weather. And typically they're fine and consciously chose to do so, so don't bring it up.If you're an out of stater, you're a flatlander. Doesn't matter how many mountains your state has.We hate all billboards, that's why they're banned here. We will complain about your billboards.

This is by far the liveliest I've seen both Fosstodon and Mastodon since I joined back in 2020. Welcome to all the new people! Hope you all enjoy your stay, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. It can be slow sometimes because we the users make all the content, but you get used to the more relaxed vibes after a bit.

Dear Linux Sysadmins,Please leave SELinux in enforcing mode and properly configure apps to be able to be used with it on. I have now witnessed multiple security events that would have been totally prevented if SELinux wasn't in permissive mode. I know it's a pain in the ass, but having your server get pwned is more of a pain in the ass.Sincerely,A tired SOC analyst

I've been futzing around with my Wazuh install tonight and frankly as a SIEM it just kinda feels incomplete.Now I'm a bit spoiled coming from Splunk Enterprise Security of course. But lacking the ability to process alerts is kinda a killer for me. I need something where I can receive an alert, investigate, and either take action if needed or close false positive if not. Maybe I'll give Elastic Security a shot this weekend, but lord knows installing an ELK stack is a pain in the ass.

I'm starting to plan my first ever "adult" vacation, i.e. not with my parents. Looking into Germany, would love to visit Berlin, my ancestral hometown of Naumberg, and the Baltic Sea probably via Rostock. I feel like I'm missing something tho, maybe like a nice hike or botanical gardens. I want to see the country side as well as the cities. Also I feel like there's must see landmarks I've missed.If anyone from Germany has suggestions for places to go or other advice hit me up. Boosts welcome

Reminder from your friendly SOC analyst. NEVER do anything personal on your work provided devices. Modern Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions such as Crowdstrike or Palo Alto Cortex XDR can and will see everything you're doing, including going so far as to decrypt your HTTPS traffic to snoop on it.

@kev I can heartily recommend Kubota's, super durable and easy to repair. Popular enough it's easy to find parts too, and there's always used ones around, at least here in the US.

I've been tempted to scorched earth my homelab again recently. But instead of just redoing my current setup I kinda want new hardware to have better separation of public facing and local facing assets.Just two problems,1. $$$2.
