@troed @taylorlorenz it will never be like a cold. The severity of the acute respiratory syndrome refers to the underlying disease, not the highly variable immunogenic symptomsWe're talking about a virus that, during the acute phase, uses the respiratory system as a launching pad to get to the rest of the body, establishing reservoirs that may never fully clear, vaccinated or not. Let me know when a common cold virus does thathttps://johnsnowproject.org/insights/a-new-disease-paradigm/

@troed @taylorlorenz there are two kinds of symptoms that happen after an infection, but only one kind tends to be focused on:1. symptoms from the immune system responding to the presence of the pathogen2. symptoms from the damage the pathogen has caused to various organs and organ systems, which can take time to fully manifestThe latter can happen without the former, but there is focus on the former at the expense of the latter

@troed @taylorlorenz extremely true -- that's why we have to keep in mind that we are working with a SARS virus, where the post-viral illness is markedly more severe. As Dr Lucinda Bateman notes: "SARS-CoV-2 is definitely a very pathogenic virus that attacks many, many aspects of the body"

That’s actually not true.'In reality, children who get RSV infections repeatedly or at a young age are at more risk of diseases like asthma that will follow them all through their lives, said [Dr. Samira Jeimy, an allergist and clinical immunologist at St Joseph’s Health Care London]."https://globalnews.ca/news/9272293/immunity-debt-covid-19-misinformation/#SARSCoV2 #covid #longcovid #pandemic #publichealth #immunity

@internetarchive the week following thanksgiving, there's bound to be a lot of :blobsars: in the air. Are there any protocols in place for that?

@troed @taylorlorenz there are many viruses that don't send people to the hospital and then act very much unlike a cold once inside the body

@troed @taylorlorenz if you only judge a virus by its acute outcomes, and not what it is capable of doing once inside the body, you are going to have a bad time

"So much of this, as other writers have said, is about class in America. The Times’ Covid coverage has frequently tilted toward the needs of white and wealthy readers—ones who could sequester away at home or in their country houses during the height of the pandemic, whose kids went to schools with new ventilation systems and Covid testing and for whom the pandemic response was just good enough."https://www.thenation.com/article/society/covid-revisionism-next-pandemic/#covid #covid19 #pandemic #PublicHealth #CovidIsNotOver

The sheer amount of people who stopped wearing masks as soon as they were optional demonstrates how many people never understood why they were wearing them in the first place, which is a tremendous and ongoing failure of institutional public health#CovidIsAirborne #FluIsAirborne
