@luca @shriramk I agree, Jupyter Notebooks are a great way to introduce people to Python and skipping all the env troubles that come with it.How does automatic revisioning keep students honest?

Let's talk about #FediProblems unrelated to #Bluesky today. The prevelance of #Discord in #Fediverse #moderation. #Discord is a centralized service with a history of violating the #gdpr and being generally not #privacy friendly. In terms of data security, it's messages are comparable to #DMs on the #Fediverse - they are always accessible to the admins of the service. But still, moderation teams on the #fediverse use the service for coordination. 1/n

I understand the reason for this - organization and coordination are difficult tasks. And the team responsible for resolving conflicts should not itself be a source of misunderstanding and conflict. For this purpose #discord is a very useful, but flawed tool. And alternatives (e.g. #Matrix, #IRC, #Email and #Jitsi) have their own issues - some are just down to network effects, others actually lack features making them less useful for coordination. This is why I don't recommend them here. 2/n

But one thing I do want to talk about is the recent idea, I saw probably during a discussion of @atomicpoet:#Fediverse #autonomous #moderation - the idea that both moderation actions and the coordination of moderation teams should be completely run through the #Fediverse - thus removing a disconnect between #userspace and #moderatorspace on a technological level.3/n

The advantages to organizing #moderation on the fediverse include in my opinion:- better #privacy, as even when using unencrypted DMs, as long as they stay on the instance being moderated, the instance retains #digitalsovereignty.- better interactions between moderators and members. #Mastodon, especially, creates an illusion that only one person/account is the face of the instance. That this false for most instances, is a well-known fact. But this is not reflected by the #Mastodon software.

And using a special instance account, like @leuchtturm as the public admin account, makes the moderation more obscure and not less. It means you lack an understanding about who and how decisions are made.If we develop tools on the #Fediverse, based on #ActivityPub, to organize moderation teams, moderation becomes more #private, #sovereign and #transparent.

We shouldn't just have silencing, blocking and other #moderationtechniques - we also need concepts of reasoning, warnings and reprieve in #ActivityPub. These should be created as part of the #moderation process and published to explain a decision, both to the instance members and other instances' moderators. This would increase #transparency and could make #federation easier.

@strypey #NewPipe still works, though you have to use a #VPN or #TOR if you want to avoid contacting #Google directly.

@stux @BootsChantilly Marriage is a protection. Married couples enjoy special protection internationally, regardless of their other status and can't be separated against their will (at least in Germany) by the state, e.g. in an asylum process. It also ensures custody of children and inheritance is secure in case one of the partners dies.
