@urusan i was just thinking about this this morning. I was wondering how a 2on-1off scheme would affect people. Schedules could be staggered so most things could always be open. It would probably take "holidays" out of the hands of employers because of uneven application. Which is also a benefit, because in the US they seem pretty unequally Christian focused anyways.

#feditips look in the darkest shadows, the deepest silences, and the furthest reaches of solitude to find what lurks in shunned parts of your own mind.

@stux indeed, remember the discord and chaos caused by the great Eris convergence of 2022 over on a @schratze poll? The constructive harmonics nearly ripped the fediverse apart and can still be detected by sensors today.

@ymd ε½Όγ―θͺ°γ«ζ¬η€Όγγ¦γγΎγγ?What I tried to say: Whom is that man saluting?Note: Pretty sure this is a non-sequitur to what you were saying, but the picture is so strange...

@ymd I definitely missed that. π€£ I only understand some few things you say. Mostly "son". I try to not interact too much to not wear out any good will. :blobPeek:β That picture of a construction/warehouse worker saluting is just too weird.

@xerz I think the Canadian gov't response to the trucker showed why decentralized finance may be here to stay. The gov't gave carte blanch to banks to suspend accounts suspected of supporting the protest. Though, hopefully it hasn't reached its final form (e.g. ETH trying to move away from proof-of-work)."All other freedoms rely on the freedom to transact" was an interesting way to phrase "they've put a paywall between you and survival". Sharing this thought required a computer and a connection, acquired through transactions. Walking to the public place for a town hall style interview with a candidate requires clothing that would be obtained via transaction.

Scientists sprouted seeds in lunar soil. Is this actually anything? I mean, don't seeds sprout in any medium that keeps them moist enough to germinate? They contain the extra nutrients they need to sprout in the seed itself. Hence the paper towel and water treatment that elementary schools do...https://www.npr.org/2022/05/14/1098753238/scientists-grow-plants-soil-moon-nasa-university-of-florida

@urusan we have pliable silicone covers of various sizes. One side has a little handle and some ribs to keep the cover from creating a seal with dishes, the other side is flat for food on plates. Works pretty well, acts as another hot dish handler when clean.

I heard a Milton Friedman quote about how government spending had increased over his lifetime but how modern conveniences like microwaves and computers were made by private firms.I am pretty sure microwaves came out of the government research into radar. I suspect, though am too lazy to source it at the moment, that Bell Labs' transistor research was also funded by the government. Internet? Government. GPS? Government. Weather satellites? Government. Those last two are only finally getting to a point where private firms could do them.TL;DR seems like Milton Friedman likes to ignore that private firms stand on the shoulders of "no market for that" government explorations.

The Todai easy Japanese app has some JLPT like tests for each level. For all that it is and isn't, it'll be kind of cool having a way to measure progress. Here's to getting a 67 on the N5 after a few months of flailing around on my own. Some of it is that there were actually very few kanji on the test, so I was struggling to recognize words written in kana even if I did know them. I left quite a few questions that I had no idea on blank to not skew results of the multiple choice format.
