In Breath of the Wild, cold-themed ingredients make you resistant to heat, and vice-versa, which is all well and goodBut electricity-themed ingredients make you resistant to electricity, which is aesthetically a bit annoyingWhy not replace the Zapshrooms with Rubbershrooms?

I have petitioned my DM to add "Greaves of the Hedgehog", which grant a ludicrous movement speed but cause some of your money to fly everywhere when you take damage

While I'm on this fantasy kick: in a world where dragons are highly endangered/extinct, someone has launched a Dragon Jurassic ParkBut, they died out because they're The Most apex predators who need half a continent to sustain themselves, and they're violently antisocial and territorial, and the managers haven't quite solved the thermodynamics issue with keeping them fed"Wizards can sort out those little details, right?"

I'm fascinated by late-90s techno-Utopianism, in that brief window between the home-computer boom and 9/11y2kaestheticinstitute.tumblr.com is a great resource for this, but there's a lot more to it, especially with all the depictions of The Home Of The Future, fully wired and interactive and responsive to our every need, before we knew the reality of what Alexa would actually beIt's such a powerful feeling, standing on the threshold of a new millennium and hoping it'll all go well

I like how Hollow Knight has "adjustable difficulty" in that you *can* grind for some super-busted badges, but the amount of grindiness and how you achieve it is purely up to you

Fun character idea: a ~mystical martial arts monk~, but based on Western Christian monks instead of spiritually-vague Eastern monks, and with just as little grasp on what the religion's actually like

The highlight of my first day at my thrift store job:A woman came in with a lightbulb she bought from us earlier, and spoke Chinese into her phone's Google Translate app, "this is bad." I responded "No refunds, but the app cut me off at "No."I can't tell if this is the Google commercial from Hell, or the lamest Black Mirror episode ever

In middle school I was really into RuneScape, and weirdly terrified of any of my friends finding out, even though I’m sure none of them would have given a damnIn hindsight, this looks like really clunky thematic foreshadowing of me realizing I was gay in high schoolGod is a hack writer

“This is not normal” bugs me because:A) It’s largely not true: America has had plenty of awful presidents, reactionary movements, etc. and the slogan just sounds like contextually-illiterate Whig historyB) As a Certified Weirdo, I don’t like the equivocation between “normal” and “good”

If you have a typical undergrad math degree, how far back in time would you have to go to be the best mathematician in the world?

Judging from multiple years of Pornhub stats, if Japan ever wanted to formally roll out Hentai Diplomacy, the infrastructure is all very much in place

Story idea: astrology is real, stellar influence is the one thing in the universe that travels faster than light, and every physicist in the world is tripping over themselves to figure out what the fuck is going on

There's a mood I've seen around that I've been internally calling "Woke Fatalism," captured in things like r/aboringdystopiaIt's like "stringent refusal to acknowledge any large-scale reasons to be excited about the future"I get why it exists, but it frustrates me that there's not more of a drive to research times (even within living memory!) when things seemed similarly dire, and how those problems were overcome (at least in part)

My slapdash model of world history that gets me through the day is sort of like "things were Really Fuckin' Bad for almost all of human history, and I'm so grateful that warlords and plagues are not a daily concern; there's still so much work to be done, but a lot of absolute horrors have completely receded out of memory and I trust that we can fix the new ones with concerted effort"

one chapter into The Left Hand of Darkness - I really like the worldbuilding, and honestly the most anachronistic part to me is that Genly is a very classically-sexist prick rather than going on about "snowflakes" and "genderspecials"
