       Just spent a week in Plasencia in Spain - we got the train from Madrid. A gorgeous little town, with a historic centre yet great walking/cycle routes within easy reach. Fab bars (free tapa every drink, though that’s only going to appeal to omnivores as a snack just turns up with your glass, no choice offered).

       Half the joy of travelling for me is discovering things. This time it was vino del pitarra - a pitarra is a clay vessel, and that region makes wine in them, though it’s not sold much commercially even within the area. Yes, we drank some - we found a bar selling it.A lot of overtourism is driven by people wanting to see what they’ve already seen in photos. Hence places like Barcelona, Venice and Mont St Michel are being swamped. Go somewhere less talked-about and you’ll have a much better time!
