If you have ever wanted to separate your Tailscale MagicDNS search domains from your split DNS entries, please send me a message. I've got something you may want to try.

The efforts to build open data sets for large models are exciting, because I want projects and companies to succeed on product quality, not access to data.

For those who see time. Now in your profiles, rsc points out you can easily get access to an efficient monotonic clock. In a global, define: var base = time.Now()Then in the hot path use time.Since twice: start := time.Since(base) // ... d := time.Since(base) - startWhile time. Now has to look up time twice, time.Since does the minimal monotonic clock lookup.https://github.com/golang/go/issues/61765#issuecomment-1672090302

if you had told me five years ago that embedding json in sql rows would breath fresh life into databases, there is nothing you could have said to convince me. and yet it moves.

Very happy to see Tailnet Lock in Beta! With careful design I believe there's a great future in managed services you don't need to trust.https://tailscale.com/blog/tailnet-lock-beta/

@fugueish the critical thing missing from the Fence argument is the rejoinder “…but the only way to figure out what the Fence does is to try taking it away.”

@danluu I would claim this is generally true at universities, and so probably affects several professions that come out of advanced degrees. One of the opinions I hold that resonates strongly with old reasonably successful academics and does very poorly with all other academics is calling a PhD an apprenticeship.

@danluu a related opinion of mine that I take very seriously that most people dismiss assuming it is a glib statement: “every testable definition of intelligence is overrated”

I have a laptop filled with fancy debuggers and IDEs. I also have five processes communicating over pipes and sockets filled with bugs. So it is time for printf.
