@nicerobot @pluralistic if Goodreads wasn't owned by Amazon, I'm sure that would be a fantastic platform for such things. There's a reason we can't have nice things.

@nicerobot @pluralistic but also, support your local library (if you have one), they love audiobooks just as much as they love visual books.

Sherlock Holmes and Pooh Bear will both be public domain next week. There's a crossover that's been waiting a long time.

Twitter before Musk was far from perfect, but at least it was mostly stable and often consistent. Then someone rich and dishonest took over, and handed the show over to the right, and cut services to the bone, especially the services protecting the most vulnerable. And things started falling in unexpected yet predictable ways. Then I thought about Britain under the Tories.

@clive Hasn't there been a standard software clause for a while that says "don't use for nuclear" because that would mess things up badly (Long before StuxNet)

@clive maybe not as clear, but there's been an expectation soonest many big name games recently that there first thing everyone does on day 1 is download all the release day patches because there's a good chance you can't run it otherwise. But yeah, I've not seen anyone up front say "this will lie to you", "this is broken", just a general expectation that's the case.

@simon see also: politicians. If we choose to be led by liars, is it surprising that we build liars in our own image?

@Radical_EgoCom I like the way it's put here ‘I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.'https://lifehacker.com/why-its-good-to-be-bad-at-things-you-enjoy-according-t-1847421639

@Rasp if they didn't want it set on fire, why would they put the sign above all those cardboard boxes? Thoughtful of them to make things easier.

@CrimethInc so Musk's "free speech absolutist" cry actually means free speech only for absolutists?
