omg I totally forgot to announce this when I merged it but...#postmarketOS has a new installer for laptops and tablets! 🎉 You can find images at postmarketos.org/download. Currently only pre-built images exist for Lenovo X13s and Generic x86_64, but it's easy to enable building images for other devices if there's enough interest!It uses os-installer[1] on GNOME desktop, and is intended to be booted from USB disk to install pmOS onto local storage 🔥 1. https://gitlab.gnome.org/p3732/os-installer

Does anyone in the US want to donate (or sell to me for cheap) an Apple M1 or M2 macbook so I can:- Improve the #postmarketOS port for this device- Use it to speed up my pmOS development[1] because using qemu/kvm to test is soooo helpful for the work I do😁1) IIUC kvm works under linux on this, unlike on my existing qcom laptop that can't reach el2 without losing remoteprocs 🫠

Today I reached a pretty cool milestone in my work to build an immutable #postmarketOS: the first configurable bootup with an encrypted user data partition and read-only /usr (for A/B updates)Still lots more work to do though, but please enjoy this janky recording of me trying it out in a VM 🥳 Thanks to @nlnet for sponsoring this work :D

How do people who care about #privacy and #FOSS, who have children, come to terms with a public school system that "requires" signing children up for google products in order to teach them?I'm personally really struggling with this one. I could opt out... but then my child is going to feel excluded, teachers will probably hate us because of the extra effort this would impose on them to do their jobs, their educational experience will probably be "less" somehow, etc.

I started working on a patch to replace the boot/shutdown splash app in #postmarketOS with plymouth (which is the same thing everyone else uses)I have it mostly working in our initramfs and was making good progress... until I got seriously sidetracked trying to make a pmOS theme 🤣This is based on some splash images/ideas that @justsoup submitted a while back.
