@gloriouscow @foone Yea, I think the 1.2 format is a Japanese 3.5" format. _AFAIK_, UFI does not support 5.25" disks at all.

Just read: "Netflix was only included in FAANG because otherwise you get something offensive."Erm ._.

For context, I was looking for a serious reason "Why is Netflix included in FAANG", and the answer seems to be "Netflix had explosive growth when the acronym was coined".

I was today years old when I learned that most DVR recordings are stored in the cloud*; I thought they were stored on HDDs/SSDs locally.* Btw, f*** that.

Interesting feature of my Logitech K400 keyboard's trackpad:If you do a two-finger tap, it performs a right click. This does not appear to be documented (though tap-to-left-click is). Maybe this is a standardized gesture? At the very least, my W520 trackpad can't do it.

LRT: God that's depressing.Linked time https://youtu.be/MvkGBWXb2oQ?si=q8tS4WCZUYa2qRQn&t=321"I think fate is trying to tell me it's time to move on".I don't personally care for programming in Forth. But I do believe in its goals of trying to create a bunch of little ecosystems that are maintained by a few ppl.AFAIC, @neauoire is more than capable of carrying on Chuck's legacy. I see they commented on the video already. To borrow a quote I heard: "In my dreams I can do what Chuck and @neauoire have done."

#lazyweb In hard disks, Was Logical Block Addressing developed independently of "remapping bad sectors" or in tandem?Specifically, around what time period did it become safe to "copy a disk's filesystem from one drive to another to make a perfect copy" without having to worry about two drive's defect tables not matching up?

@neauoire >things just want to be linearAre you willing to elaborate? Not sure I understand what "linear" means in this context. But also, I haven't been feeling well lately lol...

Deeply angered over RAM prices right now. The $ I save for a new machine each year ($500 per year, mind you!) can't keep up with the price increases.

@regehr It is absolutely unclear to me that I wouldn't also bitch about having to learn a different interface. E.g. I couldn't tell you how to use `FIND.EXE`.My own experience w/ the part of the RIIR crowd who absolutely _despise_ C seem to think "rewriting coreutils in Rust is not useful use of programmer time, considering the amount of testing/usage they've gotten".(I have no strong opinion on this.)

@foone IIRC, the 34-pin interface doesn't really have a Reduced Write Current pin either. That was on the 50-pin interface and the most ancient MFM drives (ST-506-era). I think most ppl looked at pinouts.ru and copied it.That said: @brouhaha, please correct me, since I may be misremembering.

#lazyweb Anyone have any old VFD datasheets? Can they run properly with a filament voltage of 40V?That's what I'm reading by poking this board, I have. But the VFD driver chips on the board say they want 50-60V:https://docs.rs-online.com/add0/0900766b8002651f.pdf

Related... I'm surprised 40V didn't hurt me when I touched it. I didn't even feel it. I thought 25V was the minimum voltage considered dangerous. But maybe that's AC only...(Yea, don't do this, this probably wasn't smart)
