Reminded all of a sudden about the time - #Christmas Eve, 2007 - where I went to spend Christmas with my mom. She was a flight attendant at the time and was going to be overnighting in Greenville-Spartanburg, SC. So I agreed to fly to meet her there.Long story short, I get there and am not really able to find her anywhere. She emerges sometime later with someone I'd never met before. A woman, probably 18, maybe 19 years old. She introduces me then fills me in on why she was late.

For the sake of the story, we'll call this woman Ashley. Well... After everyone had de-boarded from the plane, Ashley remained around the gate area, confused, crying. It's a story that would be hard to believe if it weren't for the fact that I could definitely see myself doing the exact same silly thing - Ashley's parents had purchased her a flight from New York to Greenville, South Carolina whilst all the while living in Greenville, North Carolina.

We didn't change the world or anything but I got about five pictures that come up every Christmas Eve that remind me of the time I had to drive a PT cruiser. Here's one that I snapped out the side window of a peach water tower.Merry Christmas y'all.

So Mom, who when I was growing up never met a puppy in a parking lot that we didn't in due course take into our home and adopt, decided we were driving Ashley to the other Greenville. Mom did not know where the other Greenville was but how far could it be, eh? Eh?Btw, mom had already rented the car, a PT cruiser, big sigh. A freaking PT cruiser.

Back in these days, GPS navigation was kind of an emerging thing and being that it was Christmas she decided to spring for the TomTom modular GPS that was an extra charge for the rental car.Tap, tap, tap – a few seconds later we discover that Greenville North Carolina is about 6 hours from the Greenville that we were in. One way.

So Me and Mom and a stranger traveled down the road with all the saccharine sweet Christmas music you have heard over and over for every year you've been on this planet, burned out on after year 10, then forget about for 10 months until it happens all over again. For 6 hours until we eventually got there.

I mean, It was worth it. Delivered Ashley to Mom very early on Christmas morning, paid a full night for about 4 hours of sleep in a Best Western or something, then turn right back around so that mom could get back to work. 6 more hours burning on out on Christmas music for the second time, fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-laaaaaauurgghhh
