@cooper I've been using Ubuntu with XFCE for the past year and have slowly been experimenting with Arch and AwesomeWM recently.Learning about Linux by using Ubuntu has been a great experience for me since there was technical aspects to pick up and play around with but nothing incredibly hard unless you wanted to change major settings. After using Ubuntu for a while it opened my eyes to the vast web that is the Linux/FOSS universe. Not really a "pro-tip" but just my experience. Hope that helps!

@strypey Their site also looks disastrous on mobile. Maybe it's just my phone but so many elements are broken, cut in half, spilling over other elements, and hard to use. I guess they weren't thinking about mobile users either...

How does everyone feel about the #telegram communication/messaging software? I've started using it again and found out they have a Github repository with their source code and a GPL v3 licence.

@redstarfish Very interesting! I didn't know too much about them, I was actually told about this software by a friend who appreciates being secure on the internet and adjacent communications.I'm a bit disappointed that the servers software is proprietary and the desktop app doesn't support e2ee. I was just telling my friend I really enjoy the Linux Desktop clients UI but if it's not secure, I don't believe Its worth using IMO. I appreciate the honest information & review!

@kzimmermann Learn something new everyday! I typically use Lastpass to store my passwords as it's cross-platform so it just makes it easy to use where ever I am and no matter what I'm on but I like the idea of generating passwords myself. Adds more peace of mind that it's completely random and not something fed from software that I don't have access to. I appreciate the tip! Sidenote, what are some other good foss or secure password managers that you know of?

@kzimmermann Amazing! I will check it out and probably start using it. I love Lastpass but it's always a good idea to have them backed up someplace and a second password vault doesn't sound like a bad idea lol. I really do appreciate the reply and recommendation! Cheers!

@kzimmermann I've been hearing mixed things about them recently. Mostly this ^ that they're not actually secure and they've been cracked before. I will check out #XMPP, so far so good, looks promising. I really would rather get away from phones cause they track, record and transmit everything lol.I, again, really do appreciate the advice and recommendations! I feel like I've taken a great step forwards in the FOSS world!

@kev I definitely have this feeling very often. I think of something that would be a neat idea for a program or something and I dont have the know-how to implement it.

@redstarfish You could use Anbox on your computer and run the android app in an emulator.

Would anyone be able to give me some advice or guide me through setting up Jekyll on Github (or srt.ht)? I've read some docs and tried before (I will admit I was pressed for time so I didn't try my hardest but I figured it would be easy to try but it was more complicated than I had anticipated) with no luck. I appreciate any tips, advice or even good wishes. @mike

@mike How did I not know this existed? I've looked at @kev's websites before (that's where I first saw and thought to use jekyll) and I thought it would be a great platform to try.

Just bit the bullet and walked through @kev's tutorial on how to set up a Jekyll site on Netlify and Github. It's not pretty and it's not mine yet but it's up! (Will share once it's done). It was so easy and enjoyable. I can't wait to make it my own. Thanks @kev!Also, thanks @mike for showing me to Kev's great article!

@kev @mike Also, one thing I noticed is on "Step 4d" it mentions the navigation.html file but doesn't say what to add to get the navigation working. It does however show what was added in it "Step 4g" where it shows everything all together but "Step 4d" didn't mention adding it and it can get possibly be overlooked by newer users if they don't catch it.Other then that everything works flawlessly. Thanks again.
