@codewiz _second_ stage :-) it does a deorbit burn over Finland on polar launches.

@codewiz yeah, you are correct. But the direction and purpose is same.

@matrix any details on what Olvid is? First time heard about it. Does it have a Matrix bridge yet? :)

@organicmaps @fdroidorg "This app promotes or depends entirely on a non-free network service" anti-feature really makes no sense. Even having some defaults to services that are not completely free triggers this, even if the app can be fully used with completely free services. "This app depends entirely on a non-free network service " would be acceptable criteria. But still hiding apps with anti-features by default just sucks.

@selea put something high-res and use a software CRT filter to make it look good.

@phoronix does this mean streaming to multiple destinations? That would be useful for for example simultaneous Peertube and Twitch streams. You can do it with server side things but would be much easier if OBS supported it directly.

Took first steps with Meshtastic. I got HELTEC v3 boards. Some notes: - Flashing was easy, except Ubuntu has Chromium as snap, and it can't access serial ports without command line magic. Bad UX, Ubuntu! - Web configurator is quite good, but could be easier. Lot of parameters available. AFAIK some such as fixed location need to be set via python cli. - I set one device as router and it stopped responding on serial. Not sure if this is expected. #meshtastic #ubuntu

@selea i'm planning to put the router in a tree next to my house. It has quite good visibility over horizon. Not a mountain or skyscraper though.

@oh8hub @selea my nodes are in Tampere, but I might have possibility to install one at Jämi to help bridge the gap. Hints on long range node setup appreciated.

@selea @oh8hub i don't think solar would be feasible in Finnish winter. I have access to electricity and antenna pole at Jämi airfield.

@selea @oh8hub first, I got both nodes up. Even the router responds over bluetooth & serial now. Next I need to figure out case and power for it and get it to the tree. What would a raspeberry pi do related to a Meshtastic node?

@selea @oh8hub can't I update it with any computer the same way? Not sure what a pi on node location would help. There is no internet or anyone present during winter.

Apple Meshtastic client issue about it sending telemetry home without consent has been deleted. This is highly suspicious and I wouldn't trust the app anymore. Maybe it's time to fork it and clean out all the tracking. https://github.com/meshtastic/Meshtastic-Apple/issues/1449#meshtastic #opensource #privacy

Yesterday I installed debian 13 to my living room PC, used for mostly web browsing, watching videos and occasional Steam gaming. Unfortunately the experience wasn't great. The default gnome desktop is super bare bones. There is no visible task bar, you need to click top left corner to reveal gray bar with app launchers. You need to install gnome extension manager and guess some extensions to get more familiar desktop look. Not great for beginner users. #debian

..also there was no tool to install non-free stuff such as nvidia drivers or other binary blobs. I know debian doesn't want to install them by default, but really there should be an option, preferably during installation.Last straw was when I tried launching Element. Gnome hadn't initialized a keyring by default and Element/Electron complained about it. For beginner user that would be a showstopper.I hope debian 14 will be more desktop friendly in future, but i'll install Ubuntu for now.

@peertube @fdroidorg just installed this and noticed small UX issue:1. Enter your instance into "Search Peertube platforms"2. App asks to join server with url3. You need to re-enter the instance url in the text box. This step could be streamlined by just continuing if search has valid instance url already.
