@textfiles Yeah, I don't use Windows much anymore but when I saw this I was like, "Uh it wasn't ON my list?!" and I felt really violated and like it was my mom or my boss or something.

@Mrfunkedude @CosmicTraveler Not to invalidate your feelings (I understand why you feel that way), but the field was started by a legit sociologist a century ago, and there are plenty of peer-reviewed academic papers on the theory that major historical events generally shape the attitudes of generational cohorts. There is, in fact, some kind of science.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_generations

@Mrfunkedude That’s fair. I have found the theory to be useful, in the sense of trying to have empathy for the experiences and attitudes of people who lived through different events and cultural trends at different ages, and trying to bridge those gaps. Of course everyone is an individual, but most of us are shaped to some extent by what we’ve lived through in common with others. Being aware of this has helped me relate better to younger folks (and older), and helped me keep up with the times and not stay too stuck in or unaware of my generational attitudes.

#Introduction: Howdy. I'm an author who specializes in #deconstructing #cult tactics, #AbuseCulture, healing #ReligiousTrauma, and #Mormonism. My book #RecoveringAgency deconstructs #Mormon manipulation. I #ghostwrite & #edit part-time for a living. Before that, I worked in #IT from 1996-2011.In 2015 I left my abuser of seven years, and since have been disabled with #PTSD and other chronic conditions, fighting #suicide. I was unable to work at all for five years. My personal narrative now is about recovery out of that #DarkSojourn. I'm usually in some kind of pain, and try not to whine too much about it. I'm #Genderfluid #nonbinary (they/them) of recent transition, #polyamorous, and #bisexual. My interests are wide and varied and I will not remember them all here. I dabble in #infosec, #fiction writing, #philosophy. DXed with #autism circa 2010. #GenX obsessed with the #90s. I love #music, #psychology, and thinking about #culture. Updates as I think of things.

Seriously disliking the instability of Mastodon. That’s something that’s going to need fixing if this is going to work.

@randunel I dunno, I had to move servers after less than six months here because the admin got dogpiled over a ridiculous issue and that’s still causing me problems finding stuff from my archive. Now there’s some big war over .art and .social that I’m not going to try to unravel but it’s affecting people. When Meta hits, who knows what’s going to happen but the early rumbles aren’t looking good. There are serious flaws in the federation model being glossed over but in a practical senses they need polishing. Making it easier to move servers without losing history would be a good start, some kind of online data preservation if an instance poofs or is defederated, too. The whole model rests upon freedom to move instances but that isn’t really a “choice” in every way that it needs to be. Do I own my data here? Not really. Not practically. It’s not beholden to any corporation, but it IS beholden to a mob.
