@futurebird I think it's not enough to make clubs for young people, but rather to make spaces with adults where young people are welcome. Some of my favorite places to hang out online when I was younger had several decent adult role models in them and I think that was helpful because that means that it wasn't just other kids, but we could pick up how to behave from the adults, while still having fun and feeling welcome. And the adults were there because they enjoyed it as much as the kids.

@futurebird @dotsie @ainmosni Most AI music that I've known was AI (coming from a generator sent by others) had overly popular themes and tunes, and often didn't have very good song structure or the lyrics weren't very structured. I think the space though where I've possibly been listening to AI music and not realizing, is in the background instrumental genres, such as lofi, and the related genres similar to lofi.YouTube has a lot of channels that post AI lofi music.

@futurebird @PeterLG @TobyBartels I read the Harry Potter books when I was a kid, and it seemed decent enough at the time (always preferred the first few books, and watching the first few movies)But recently my wife got me into a different children's book series that's better than Harry Potter: the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage.Harry Potter always seems to have plot holes, but Septimus Heap consistently follows it's rules.

@futurebird I had to search this to understand, yeah that's silly, there's no actual sharpie, it's just a pointy hard bit? I've heard of tactical pens but those were still pens that just had a metal body that was made to look cool and rugged and apparently be used to break a windshield to escape if your car is under water, which is at least a reasonable-ish reason for it to be tactical.

@maddiefuzz @futurebird I think it largely depends on which EDC community, I've stumbled across a sort of dumb-phone EDC trend on YouTube where they show what they carry in lieu of a smart phone.Which is like, the best because it's often fountain pen + notebook + the dumb phone + iPod or walkman. Sometimes a game boy or Nintendo DS.

@futurebird this is the kind of thing I usually want to try to fix myself. Even if I break it some other way.Nice watch my wife got me stopped after some time, and also needed the band adjusted. Got a watch toolkit and adjusted the band and opened it up, just needed a new battery. Feels rewarding to be able to change my own watch battery and adjust the band and stuff myself.

@futurebird we've got a pretty big TV my wife got for free from someone she knew who was upgrading, and then also a Chromecast we got for free from my work as a gift thing. The Chromecast is an enabler, it enables watching so much stuff, so easily. Even free things on say Pluto or Tubi in addition to YouTube.I don't think we could get rid of it at this point, even if I wanted to I don't think my wife would. It is useful to put stuff on while doing knitting though.

@futurebird never did caroling for cash or had anyone do it to us. When I was a kid we only did caroling at nursing homes for free/volunteer.I like to think it's better that way, but honestly hard to say... If I was in a nursing home I'd probably feel rather held captive with carolers singing at me, unable to escape.

@futurebird not a teacher, so take with a cup of salt, but maybe having them not coding during your speaking parts could help?Like, locking their screens or all looking at you rather than typing at the machine. My guess is that anyone calling out like that got distracted with the coding and was not strictly paying attention to what was being said, so when they get the error, they may not see or hear anything aside from the error in front of them.

@futurebird In the middle of 2019 I flipped a toggle on LinkedIn saying I was looking for a new position.Recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn based on my then-current position (I literally flipped the switch and sat there, didn't apply to anything) Few interview rounds later I was hired, moved cross country. Still work there.Probably could never happen that way again.
