@meena @msaunders @FirstProgenitor well, the manufacturing is not done in the global north anymore. the main source of profit is now existing capital, a big part (around 1/4? don't quote me on this) of it being intellectual property.The global north is defending their last slice of the cake. This vote is capitalism being more important than defeating #Covid19.The pirate party never realized how radical their attack on capitalism actually was, and how dark their defeat.

@alexl hey, do you have some sources for these decontextualizations? I'm quite undecided on the whole matter, and definitely think the matter is already complex enough without vague info - but then it doesn't become less vague if you don't provide sources for this :/

I guess the fluffychat experiment ends now. Still think it was a server problem which made it mostly unusable for me, but I guess I'll migrate the account just to my normal matrix account.Ugh, matrix sucks so hard. I wish everyone would just use @delta instead.

Viel Glück heute beim Streiken an alle Beschäftigten im ÖPNV! Für eine sozialökologische Verkehrswende braucht es nicht nur kostenlosen Nahverkehr, sondern natürlich auch eine anständige Bezahlung für die Arbeitnehmer:innen. Soll der Wissing mal das Geld da rein stecken statt neue Autobahnen zu bauen. Der Streik zeigt, ohne den ÖPNV geht es nicht....und vielleicht können die Kontrollettis noch ein paar Tage länger streiken? ;) ohne die geht es ja durchaus schon.@nbg_ticketfrei

@delegatevoid @pocketvj @echo_pbreyer no, it would be up to @delta to implement it, as well as other email clients/messengers. It's called "client-side scanning" for a reason. If delta would refuse to do so, it could probably be forced to pay fines or be taken out of appstores; fines are not easy, because it isn't clear who is the responsible person/company.For mail providers, the situation doesn't change.It's exceptionally stupid because it's so easy to circumvent by perpetrators.

@delegatevoid @pocketvj @echo_pbreyer We do need appstores. Not everyone can build source code. Some of our users don't have laptops. Some are forced to use non-free software by their employers. Even @delta needs network effects, so it needs to be as accessible as possible.As much as I like technical solutions to political problems, in this case we have to build up political and legal pressure to show the conservatives and authoritarians where the red line is.

@angelo did you try to create a @delta profile in the past year? It's tremendously easy nowadays, 2 clicks basically, no password necessary, no personal data, no pre-requisites at all.Signal requires having a phone number, solving a captcha (twice for some reason), receiving an SMS, inventing some PIN...

@jaseg @delta as a person who has to use Signal because of their network lock-in effect, I fear for my contacts being lost when Trump pulls the plug, I'm uncertain what cloudflare really sees because it is not completely certain (see https://passthesalt.ubicast.tv/permalink/v126afbf79921jjt3bh1/ on the matter), but I doubt that it's a future-proof solution.Signal doesn't trust the cloud provider with message content, but they do trust them with a lot of metadata. They reduce it, but centralized systems can't avoid them completely.

@jaseg centralized systems are bad for metadata resistance because all the data is in one place, making it easier for a threat actor to grab. Decentralized systems are harder to surveil because the information is spread out over a lot of different actors. Surveillance is only easy and scalable in monocultures, not if the landscape is diverse.Signal is not very metadata-resistant.
