The steam machine is only going to be worth it if the parts can be replaced if they fail otherwise it's just another mini pc with soldered parts and planned obsolesce that hates right to repair

@Piejacker875 the custom amd cpu and cpu would need to be available and you would have to find someone with a BGA workstation that won't charge you nearly the price of the steam machine to fix it

If half life 3 ever happens and it don't have a native Linux port then Linux gaming is truly dead If half life 3 requires proton to function that's the end of Linux gamingIt will be Windows gaming on Linux instead

@Piejacker875 Yeah valve is banking heavily on proton The issue is compatibility layers work until they don't also you don't get true cycle accuracy and syscall accuracy with proton so it's basically like using an emulator
